Encouraging awareness for the Dementia Foundation's Spark of Life Approach is a cause close to the heart of Roosters five-eighth, Todd Carney, who lost his father to the disease.
With Todd and club captain Braith Anasta championing the cause, the Sydney Roosters first grade squad will wear specially-themed shorts and vibrantly coloured socks to raise awareness about the Dementia Foundation's Spark of Life Approach. The vibrant colours of the rainbow are directly linked with Spark of Life as vibrant colours have been found to have a profound positive and instant effect on people with dementia.
The Spark of Life Approach rekindles the spark of life in a person with dementia, growing a culture of optimism, enthusiasm, appreciation and love, creating the best context for supporting people with dementia to thrive socially and emotionally beyond the diagnosis. To help raise funds for the Dementia Foundation, the Roosters are proud to offer a limited ticket offer. Fans can secure a reserved seat in Bay 36 (located between the 40m-50m line) as well as a cap signed by Todd Carney for $60. All funds raised through this offer go directly to the Dementia Foundation. Tickets are available at www.nrl.com/tickets and the offer is limited to 100 tickets only, sold on a first in first served basis.
Additionally, both Todd and Braith's playing kits, including their boots, will be individually auctioned on the Sydney Roosters website next week. The shorts and socks of the remaining 15 players who take to the field will also be up for auction, with the shorts signed by the respective player. All funds raised will go directly to the Dementia Foundation.
Gates open at 3.00pm on Saturday with Toyota Cup kicking off at 3.15pm and the NRL at 5.30pm.

Source: www.sydneyroosters.com.auSydney Roosters captain Braith Anasta believes his side's biggest hurdle in 2011 will be living up to the hype generated by last season's performance.
From last to premiership runners up, the Tricolours fell one game short of capping a remarkable turnaround under new mentor and Dally M Coach of the Year Brian Smith.
Anasta said the 'New Attitude. New Beginning.' mantra remains attached to off field behaviour, the real test will be to use it to better their on-field efforts.
"We finished sixth last season so there is plenty of improvement left is us," Anasta said.
"The squad has hardly changed from then and we all have the same desires, we just need to work extra hard to go one step better.
"We have plenty to live up to and bigger goals to achieve. I think our balanced squad of youth and experience is key to ensuring we remain a force in 2011," he said.
A premiership winner in 2004 with the Canterbury Bulldogs, the 28-year-old is adamant the grand final defeat will do nothing less than inspire the squad to be there again in October.
"Losing to the Dragons was tough but we have moved on," the Dally M Captain of the Year said.
"We've come back to training with a fresh mind and when the rep boys join us after Christmas it will be all systems go.
"The experience we gained from last season was invaluable and hopeful it puts us ina good place from the beginning of next year. We need to get out of the blocks fast and keep pace with the top sides," he said.
The Tricolours can use their captain's former club as a recent example of what can happen if they rest on their laurels.
After finishing last in 2008 Bulldogs fell short of the minor premiership a year later by only points differential, and some controversy, which cost them two competition points earlier in the season.
2010 saw them drop back 11 spots, finishing with the third least wins in the competition, forcing them to rebuild again.
"We did it a couple of years ago," Anasta recalls of a similar turn for the worse.
"We came fourth and thought we were just going to stride into the next year and perform the same. We came last.
"It's all about attitude these days. Making sure that you're up for it and you do the little things that get you to be the player you are or get us to where we were last year, which was a lot of sacrifices. That's the most important thing for us."
