Reynolds to start, Roberts back for Sharks
Tue August 9, 2011
Source: www.bulldogs.com.au

Josh Reynolds has been elevated to the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs starting side while Ben Roberts is set to return from injury in Monday night's clash with Cronulla at Toyota Park.

Reynolds will line up at hooker after Joel Romelo accepted a one match ban stemming from a dangerous throw early in Friday night's win over the North Queensland Cowboys at ANZ Stadium, while Roberts is expected to play after he was a late withdrawal from the Cowboys match due to a corked thigh.

The Bulldogs come into the match in tenth position, two wins out of the top eight with four games remaining until the start of the finals series.

In other team news, interchange forward Chris Armit will play his 150th NRL match in the encounter, seven years after his first match for the Bulldogs and nine since his NRL debut for Parramatta.

Fellow front rower Mickey Paea has also been named in first grade for the first time since round 10, on the back of some strong performances in the NSW Cup after overcoming a knee injury.

Payne and Armit win recalls, Morris still in NSW Cup
Tue July 26, 2011
by Matthew O'Neill
Despite scoring three tries last Sunday in NSW Cup it wasn't enough for Josh Morris to regain selection in the Bulldogs NRL team.

Bulldogs coach Jim Dymock has kept faith in his outside backs for Saturday's clash against the star studded, but under performing Roosters at the SFS with kick off at 5.30pm.

Corey Payne and Chris Armit return to NRL action following injuries to David Stagg and Martin Taupau.

Payne's inclusion was never in doubt after two strong showings in NSW Cup after being dropped from the first grade squad prior to Kevin Moore's departure as coach.

Armit won selection ahead of Tim Browne for the vacancy left by Taupau with Dymock preferring a specialist prop on the bench rather than experiment with a player such as Grant Millington in the front row.

Prior to this season Armit had been one of the Bulldogs most durable and reliable performers.

Morris was unlucky not to win a recall especially onto the wing at the expense of Jonathan Wright as youngster Tim Lafai is there to stay at left centre. Obviously Dymock is looking for Morris to produce consistent form in the lower grades before he is back in the main grade.

With a poor for and against the Bulldogs need to win five of their last six matches and can't rely on finishing in equal 8th to gain a finals position.

Dymock and his assistant coach Terry Lamb heralded the Bulldogs into the post-family era last Friday night by restoring the Bulldogs bite and toughness in defence led by rotating dummy halves Joel Romelo and Josh Reynolds. It was Romelo's first appearance in the top grade after he fell out with Moore during the pre-season and it wasn't any surprise that Dymock rushed Romelo straight into the top grade.

Dymock is one of many contenders for the Bulldogs coaching position beyond this season and needs a strong showing to justify being given another 12 months. Dymock enjoyed three sensational seasons as a player at the Bulldogs from 1993 to 1995 winning the player of the year award in all three seasons he had at the club.

When Dymock took on the role the first person he called upon to assist him was undoubtedly Canterbury's greatest, most consistent and toughest player in Lamb, who was also Dymock's captain during his playing career at Canterbury.

Lamb has been involved at the club since his retirement in 1996 in every season with the exception of the two he had at the Wests Tigers as a trainer, a lower grade coach, a board of director or has been a part of the marketing staff.

The Bulldogs defensive structure of holding back and sliding across proved mincemeat for opposition teams as they rolled easy metres up the middle and were able to put in attacking kicks at will forcing undue pressure on Ben Barba and the wingers. Dymock and Lamb tweaked the structure where the Bulldogs were more aggressive in their approach and moved up quicker with Reynolds and Romelo being very eager in particular.

A change of coach traditionally brings instant results and a breath of fresh air, but both Dymock and Lamb need to sustain the Bulldogs improved showing last Friday night into sustained performances for the next six weeks.

The Roosters are a team glittered with stars, but haven't performed to expectations this season. With Braith Anasta and Todd Carney leading the way the Roosters will prove to be tough opposition for the Bulldogs.

Dymock's recent appointment was the first time since Phil Gould in August 1989 where the head coach wasn't a member of the 'family'.
