Bulldogs Coach Steve Folkes may have called some fans "niff nuffs" for their support Ben Barba, but the talented Bulldogs dynamo added 24 points on the weekend to extend his lead as top point scorer and try scorer.
Barba has been by far the most dominant player at Toyota Cup level this season and scored a dazzling 24 points against Canberra from four tries and four goals in the Bulldogs 32-18 victory against the 3rd placed and highly inform Raiders after being down 18-0 during the first half.
With the Bulldogs NRL side being walloped 58-18 on Saturday night by a side that traditionally struggles away from home the calls for Barba's promotion went into over-drive with Folkes commenting in the press conference that there would be "niff nuffs" on internet forums calling for his selection and Folkes said that promoting Barba to the top grade would be "criminal" at the current moment.
Whilst Barba continued his excellent form - the NYC in Round 15 produced another two first graders with Penrith duo Wade Graham and Masada Iosefa to the top grade making it 24 players from the Toyota Cup promoted for their first grade debuts this season. The number is set to increase to at least 26 this weekend with the Cowboys promoting Brandon Boor and the Bulldogs over looking Barba, but going for Arana Taumata, who at this stage hasn't yet signed for the 2009 season and has had an expression of interest from Newcastle.
Two of the big success stories of the Toyota Cup sit in 3rd position of the leading point scorer and try scoring charts. Souths Chris Sandow looks set to finish the season on 118 points after his introduction to the Rabbitohs NRL side has inspired them to successive victories against the Warriors and Titans. Sandow still leads the way as the Toyota Cup's leading goal kicker with 47 successful goals. Justin Carney is almost certain to finish the season with 12 tries and his introduction to the Raiders NRL side has blooded a new star of the future.
Penrith's Lachlan Coote is second to Barba as leading point scorer and leading try scorer and it's only a matter of time before Coote is promoted into the Panthers first grade side. Coote was very close to gaining selection this weekend, but it appears likely that Rhys Wesser will be fit to play delaying his NRL debut.
Barba has a 25 point lead over Coote as leading point scorer and has a four try gap ahead of Coote as leading try scorer.
Parramatta's Daniel Mortimer and Manly's Daly Cherry-Evans both have landed two drop goals this season and no drop goals were landed in Round 15 action.
Star performers from Round 15 included:
* Ben Barba (Bulldogs) - 4 tries, 4 goals and 24 points v Raiders
* Ben Hunt (Broncos) - 3 tries v Wests Tigers
* Jared Kahu (Broncos) - 8 goals from 9 attempts and 16 points v Wests Tigers
* Peter Mata'utia (Knights) - 1 try, 6 goals from 7 attempts and 16 points v Roosters

Bulldogs talent Ben Barba is currently being ignored for first grade selection, but continues to lead the way in the Toyota Cup as leading point scorer and try scorer after 14 rounds of action.
In recent weeks the Toyota Cup has seen Russell Packer, Chris Sandow, Luke Capewell, Josh Hoffman, Tony Williams and Justin Carney among others promoted into NRL squads, whereas the Toyota Cup's leading player continues to break records without NRL recognition.
Barba leads Penrith's fullback Lachlan Coote by 13 points as leading point scorer and Coote is only an injury or a form slump for Rhys Wesser in obtaining an NRL position. The 3rd highest point scorer is boom Souths talent Chris Sandow, who appears set to remain on 118 points at Toyota Cup level after dominating in his NRL debut for the Rabbitohs two weeks ago.
Both Barba and Coote are placed in the top three for the points, tries and goals.
Canberra's Josh Dugan returned after being out of action for five weeks with a contribution of 20 points from two tries and eight goals against the Broncos to become the 4th player after Barba, Coote and Sandow to pass the 100 point barrier. Dugan holds the highest average of points per game in the Toyota Cup and it's only a matter of time before he is promoted to the Raiders NRL side.
Justin Carney rounds up 3rd position as the leading try scorer in the Toyota Cup and his good form for the Raiders won him selection in their NRL squad where he scored two tries on debut against the Broncos last Sunday. Wests Tigers Coedi Towney is the only other player aside from Barba, Coote and Carney to be in the double figures for tries with 10 this season.
Sandow is still the Toyota Cup's leading goal kicker with 47 successful attempts, which is eight ahead of Barba with Coote on 35 and Dugan 34.
Goal kicking has been kind to the Titans this season with Kayne Lawton missing only one goal from 22 attempts and Jordan Rapana is yet to miss from 11 shots.
Parramatta's Daniel Mortimer and Manly's Daly Cherry-Evans are the only two players to land two drop goals this season. Both Mortimer and Cherry-Evans have been outstanding for their clubs this season and only the good form of Brett Finch and Matt Orford is preventing them from further honours at their Clubs.
Barba plays halfback, five-eighth and fullback for the Bulldogs. They are three positions the Bulldogs are struggling in due to injury to regular custodian Luke Patten and the form of their halves this season has been disappointing to say the least. How much more does Barba have to dominate before he gets his NRL opportunity?
