French international Thomas Bosc is hoping to put eight months of frustration and heartache behind him on Saturday by making his Engage Super League comeback for Catalan Dragons.
The former Dragons skipper endured an injury-riddled season in 2010, culminating in surgery to repair a ruptured patella tendon, but was today named in coach Trent Robinson's 19-man squad for the home game against Hull FC.
Bosc resumed full training in mid-February and has proved his fitness in the club's last two reserve fixtures, including an 80-minute performance against Carpentras last weekend.
"I did a test on Monday, flexing and extending the knee," he said. "I had only 10-20% deficit in terms of force, compared to 30% last week, and the muscle is one to two centimetres smaller in comparison with the other leg, compared to seven in my first session.
"The surgeon, therefore, gave me the green light to resume Super League matches.
"I have put my hand up for a place this Saturday. The team is in great shape and full of confidence following our two recent victories against the championship's big guns Wigan and Warrington so I need to be able to get to that level pretty quickly."
Fresh from their shock away wins over Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors, the Dragons will be confident of picking up their first home win of the season.
Hull have dropped winger Will Sharp, their close-season signing from Harlequins RL, and brought in youngster Reece Lyne.

Source: www.therfl.co.ukCatalans Dragons captain Thomas Bosc snatched a dramatic 35-34 victory and broke Crusaders' hearts with a last-minute drop goal that settled an epic Carnegie Challenge Cup fifth-round tie at the Racecourse Ground.
It looked plain sailing for the Dragons when they led 30-6 after 32 minutes but Brian Noble's men fought back magnificently to level the scores 10 minutes from the end and scrum-half Jarrod Sammut was agonisingly wide with a drop-goal attempt that would have seen them claim a famous win. Bosc was then off target with his first drop-goal attempt before succeeding with a second effort with just 27 seconds left on the clock and extra time looming.
Earlier, a hat-trick of tries from New Zealand international Setaimata Sa had put the 2007 runners-up in command but they lost their way when stand-off Casey McGuire went off injured. Crusaders' chief playmaker Michael Witt also missed most of the second-half action but newcomer Sammut sparked an amazing revival with his unique bag of tricks on his home debut.
It had all started so promisingly for the Crusaders with Sammut producing a delightful pass out of the back of his hand to get full-back Clinton Schifcofske over for his first try for the club after only six minutes. But the Dragons had already spotted a weakness on the Crusaders' left-sided defence and Sa powered through it after taking a pass from McGuire.
McGuire and Dimitri Pelo then combined to get winger Steven Bell over at the same spot and Bosc finished off a break by Olivier Elima to claim a third try midway through the first half. The towering Sa grabbed his second try courtesy of Bosc's high kick and when substitute Dane Carlaw made the most of some slipshod tackling to crash over for the Catalans' fifth try there seemed no way back for the home side.
But the sting went out of the Dragons' attack when they lost McGuire and centre Vince Mellars gave the Crusaders hope when he took Gareth Thomas' neat pass to pull a try back on 32 minutes. Rhys Hanbury thought he scored another on the stroke of half-time but slow-motion replays showed a foot in touch and video referee Steve Ganson disallowed the try.
There was no stopping the giant Frank Winterstein eight minutes into the second half, however, and Schifcofske, kicking in the absence of Witt, kicked the goal to close the gap to 12 points.
When Sa completed his first hat-trick for the club on 57 minutes to make it 34-18 Crusaders' hearts sank but their spirits were raised once more when substitute Peter Lupton went over on the hour. That was the signal for Sammut to take centre stage and he regathered his own chip kick to touch down for his second try in two matches before producing the telling pass that created a touchdown for winger Nick Youngquest. Schifcofske had kicked all three conversions up to then but was wide with the touchline effort that would have edged his side in front and that enabled the Dragons to have the last laugh.
