Source: www.bulldogs.com.auThe Mitsubishi Electric Bulldogs have signed former Broncos winger Leon Bott until the end of the 2008 season.
Bott, 20, is a product of Westfield Sports High in Sydney's west and played for the Australian Schoolboys rugby union team in 2003 and 2004.
Bott began his NRL career in a blaze of glory with the Broncos in 2005 and was subsequently named their Rookie of the Year.
Unfortunately 2006 was not the best of years for Bott: he injured his shoulder; was released from the Broncos; picked up by the Sharks for the rest of the season but played only one NRL game.
Bott came to the Bulldogs for the 2007 pre-season on a train-and-trial basis but medical staff discovered his shoulder was not stable and he required reconstructive surgery.
After going through extensive rehabilitation and one-on-one fitness sessions with Bulldogs trainers, Bott is close to returning to the field.
Bulldogs football manager Bradley Clyde said,
"Leon has already experienced the highs and lows of professional sport in just a couple of years.
"We are excited by the prospect of a fully fit Leon Bott because of his raw speed and untapped potential. He certainly raised eyebrows when in only his first sprint session with the part-time squad he blew them away."News sent by:

Bulldogs five-eighth Daniel Holdsworth is set to sign an extended deal, which will keep him at Belmore until the end of the 2009 season. Holdsworth joined the Bulldogs this season after playing just six first grade matches at the Dragons and he appeared in all 26 matches this year where he enjoyed an outstanding season.
Holdsworth established himself as the best five-eighth the Bulldogs have had since Craig Polla-Mounter in the mid to late 1990's and his combination with Brent Sherwin was a successful partnership. In a season where the Bulldogs never got going and under-achieved, the performances of Holdsworth was the major highlight.
The only lowlight for Holdsworth this year was an injury during the Bulldogs disasterous loss against Brisbane in the Preliminary Final where he came off the field soon after scoring the Bulldogs opening try.
Holdsworth said,
"I'm still on crutches and I hope to be walking without them next week. It's been punishing.
"It's usually a 12-week injury but we're going to take it a bit slower than that to make sure it's all sweet.
"It would've been good to get another good pre-season under my belt but now I'll just have to look at other ways to keep fit. When the boys go back to training I'll be doing plenty of riding.
"I'm excited about the future. After one year, them saying they want me to stay is exciting."Bulldogs Chief Executive Malcolm Noad said,
"He's highly thought of at the club and we've picked up discussions in keeping him here for an extended period of time.
"He has played a few first-grade games for the Dragons, so from our point of view he's been terrific. The measure of his importance within the team was shown when he came off injured in our last game."Holdsworth was very close to being the buy of the season and was certainly the bargain buy of the season signing for around $50,000 whereas the former five-eighth at the Bulldogs was previously on $400,000 and hadn't achieved any form of consistency since 2001.
The news of Holdsworth re-signing is a boost as the Bulldogs also have Sonny Bill Williams, Mark O'Meley, Hazem El Masri, Matt Utai, Ben Roberts, Corey Hughes and Adam Perry all off contract this season. The Williams situation is beyond certain to create a massive circus with NRL clubs and two rugby union assocations already sounding him out whilst O'Meley has already been strongly linked to the Roosters. Williams, Holdsworth and Roberts have to be the three priority signings with O'Meley all but just about gone.
In other news, it looks likely that the Bulldogs will throw former Broncos and Sharks winger Leon Bott a lifeline. Bott struggled with injury this season after going to Cronulla from Brisbane and his potential signing will give the slow Bulldogs outfit the speed they desperately need.
The Bulldogs struggled for points in the backs this year and the signing of Daryl Millard and the probable recruitment of Bott will go a long way to solving that problem.
