Source: www.cowboys.com.auThe North Queensland Football department restructure is close to completion, with several key appointments made to service a dedicated High Performance Unit that will focus on optimising the team's physical preparation.
The unit will be spearheaded by Cowboys great Paul Bowman, in the new role of High Performance Manager, who will be assisted by long-term employee Glen Murphy as Head Conditioner.
Former Raiders strength and conditioning coach Sean Edwards is the third member of the team and joins the Cowboys as Strength Coach after an intensive selection process.
The creation of the High Performance Unit heralds a new era for the Cowboys, with Bowman's sports science credentials to drive a scientific approach for players preparation, performance and recovery.
Under the leadership of new General Manager of Football Peter Parr, the unit will be in place for the commencement of pre-season training on Monday 8 November and is a strategic step for the Cowboys.
"We've expanded our use of sports science technology and methodology over the last two seasons, including the introduction of the GPS and studying the impact of our heavy travel schedule on match preparation through our partnership with James Cook University," Parr said.
"Paul Bowman has been central to these initiatives and the combination of this experience with his playing history and tertiary qualifications makes him the ideal candidate to manage our High Performance Unit.
"We are confident that these changes will lay the foundations for managing the rigours and demands the players face over 11 months of training and playing each year."
The final appointment in the new-look Cowboys Football department - a second Assistant Coach to Neil Henry is still to be made.
