Source: www.bulldogs.com.auFor the second year in a row Bulldogs fullback Luke Patten has been named as the Bulldogs Player of the Year. In accepting the award Patten said, "I'm honoured to win this again. It means a lot as the voting is determined by your team mates who are the best judges as to whether you are putting in or not on the field."
Bulldogs coach Steve Folkes commented,
"Luke's professionalism is second to none and all the hard work and commitment he puts into his training pays off for him every game."Bulldogs centre Daryl Millard was named as the Rookie of the Year. In his first year at the club he played in 25 NRL games and finished second on the Bulldogs try scorers list with 13 tries.
Folkes said,
"Daryl had a good first up year and I know in 2008 he will only get better."Premier League Player of the Year also went to a previous winner in Adam Brideson. He captained the side, taking it to the Minor Premiership and the Grand Final qualifier.
Jersey Flegg Player of the Year was picked up by Heka Nanai. The winger was strong in both defence and attack and has been rewarded for his efforts by being picked in the Junior Kangaroos side to tour Fiji.
Clubman of the Year was awarded to Corey Hughes who has played 240 club games for the Bulldogs over 11 years. He was a member of the Bulldog 2004 NRL Premiership-winning team.
Willie Tonga picked up The Peter Warren Medal for service to the community. Over the past 12 months Willie has been involved in many community initiatives including a drug and alcohol awareness program that was introduced into several schools throughout Queensland; the Coonamble High School Sportsmentor program; Bankstown Youth Week Festivities; a National Aboriginal Sports Corporation coaching clinic; the NRL Players' Charity Christmas party; and Kick4Kids program.
Tonga is a huge role model in his home town of Cherbourg in South East QLD, which he visits regularly and speaks to the local youth about future planning, goal setting and self-discipline. He regularly sends football boots (his own and those of other Bulldogs players) and training clothing to Cherbourg Community Health as rewards for kids who meet their goals and to disadvantaged children to help build their self-esteem and show them they are being thought of.
Bulldogs CEO Malcolm Noad commented,
"Willie is a quiet bloke who doesn't search for accolades for the work he does in the community. He just sees an opportunity to help someone out and takes it."The Bulldogs.com.au Player of the Year Award, voted on by the registered visitors to the Bulldogs website, went to second rower Sonny Bill Williams, who finished the year as the Bulldogs leading try scorer. Votes were tallied after each game of the NRL season.

Source: www.bulldogs.com.auMitsubishi Electric Bulldogs fullback Luke Patten was named the Bulldogs Player of the Year last night at the Club's annual Presentation Awards Dinner.
Patten was rewarded for the most consistent season of his career. Bulldogs coach Steve Folkes commented,
"Luke has had a terrific year and is a deserved recipient of this honour."Patten was one of only three team members to play in every game (26) this season. He was the club's second highest tryscorer with 10 and led the stats for most hit-ups/runs with 523 and most metres gained with 4,862 (an average of 187 per game).
Bulldogs hooker Adam Perry was named the Bulldogs Clubman of the Year for his 10 years of service to the Club. Perry made his grade debut for the Bulldogs in 1997 as a 17-year-old playing in the under 19s. The following year he made his Premier League debut and in 1999 at the age of 19 he played his first NRL match in round 8 against the Roosters.
All up Perry has played 205 club games for the Bulldogs - 113 in First Grade; 59 in Premier League; 32 in Jersey Flegg and 1 World Club Challenge.
The Bulldogs Rookie of the Year award went to five eight Daniel Holdsworth. Like Patten, he featured in all 26 games for the Bulldogs this season, although cruelly lasted just 18 minutes in the Grand Final qualifier injuring his ankle while scoring a try. Holdsworth made the move from the Dragons to the 'Dogs for the 2006 season and proved many critics wrong who had concerns over the young five-eight and his ability to play such a key position.
Other award winners on the night included Adam Brideson who was named Premier League Player of the Year and Jamie Clark who picked up Jersey Flegg Player of the Year honours.
The 2006 Bulldogs Presentation Night also saw the unveiling of the inaugural Peter Warren Medal for Community Service. This award was named after the late Peter Warren, a man who gave so much support to the Bulldogs and to many charities and community organisations, was handed to Bulldogs captain Andrew Ryan.
Ryan is an acting ambassador for the PCYC assisting with youth projects in the western region of NSW. He has also been an ambassador for the White Ribbon Day campaign (Anti-Violence Against Women) for the last two years. Through this role he has worked with the Bankstown Domestic Violence Liaison Committee to increase awareness in local high schools of issues around violence against women.
In addition, he helped establish the Andrew Ryan Cup - a knockout rugby league competition for U13s and U15s with competing teams from western regional towns from Cobar to Lithgow.
During the off season and bye weekends Andrew always returns home coordinating his visits with charity fundraisers for the Dubbo Base Hospital and rugby league coaching clinics with the local junior clubs.
As part of the Bulldogs Club, Andrew has worked with the youth of Macquarie Fields in coordination with the Youth Off The Streets program run by Fr Chris Riley.
