Source: www.warriors.co.nzWarriors recruitment and development manager Dean Bell today confirmed utility Lewis Brown will leave the club at the end of the season after the two parties were unable to agree terms for a new contract.
Brown, who is off contract at the end of the 2012 campaign, and the club have accepted he will continue his NRL career on a three-year contract with Penrith from 2013.
Bell said the club was keen to retain the Christchurch-born 25-year-old Kiwi international.
"We made a very competitive offer to extend Lewis' career with the Vodafone Warriors but, in the end, the two of us couldn't agree terms. We hope the future works out well for him and wish him all the best," he said.
Brown said his decision to leave the club wasn't straightforward.
"It will be tough leaving. The Vodafone Warriors gave me my break to play in the NRL and also the chance to represent the Kiwis," he said.
"I love the club but I had to look after my career and I thought the best option for my future was to accept the contract at Penrith.
"My heart's still at the Vodafone Warriors. We're only just into the 2012 season and they'll have my full commitment for the rest of the year.
"I want to thank the club for the opportunity they've given me over the last four years."
Vodafone Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah said Brown has made a real mark at the club.
"I'll always remember our first meeting with him in Sydney and the impression he left," he said.
"He had so much enthusiasm and he brought that to the Vodafone Warriors. He has made a great contribution to the club, becoming a first-grade regular in his first season in 2009 and going on to play for the Kiwis as well."
Brown became Vodafone Warrior No 151 when he made his debut against St George Illawarra in Wollongong in May, 2009. He'll make his 65th NRL appearance against the Sydney Roosters on Saturday night. Used as a back rower, centre and hooker, he has scored 15 tries so far.
He was first selected for the Kiwis for their 2010 Four Nations campaign but had to wait until the Anzac Test last May to make his debut, going on to play in each of the Kiwis' five Tests last year.

Source: www.warriors.co.nzLewis Brown has today been named on a five-man bench for the Vodafone Warriors' 22nd-round NRL match against the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Saturday night.
Brown has missed the Vodafone Warriors' last three wins against Canterbury-Bankstown, South Sydney and Canberra after being forced off the field with an ankle injury in the opening minutes of the clash against Gold Coast on July 8.
He was used as 18th man for the Vodafone Warriors last Sunday after playing for the Auckland Vulcans the previous day in their 40-20 win over North Sydney in the New South Wales Cup.
Apart from Brown's inclusion, head coach Ivan Cleary has named the same combination used in the 29-10 victory over the Raiders, the fourth straight win since the club's second bye and one which has left the Vodafone Warriors close to securing a berth in this year's finals.
They still sit alone in sixth spot on 26 points, two ahead of Newcastle and Wests Tigers who make up the top eight. The Knights and Tigers are four points clear of three teams on 20 points with five rounds left in the regular season.
With their 19-point winning margin against Canberra, the Vodafone Warriors' points for and against differential was boosted to plus 82 with seventh-placed Newcastle on plus 25 and the eighth-ranked Tigers on plus 17.
On Saturday night they face a Brisbane side (plus 80) inside the top four on 30 points, one point ahead of 2010 premiers the St George Illawarra. Last Friday night the Broncos overwhelmed Cronulla 46-16.
"We've been able to pick up four important wins over the past month but going to Suncorp Stadium to face a side playing as well as the Broncos are presents a real step up," said Cleary.
"It's also another big occasion for Brisbane with Darren Lockyer equalling the record for most NRL games."
Lockyer will play his 349th match to draw level with Terry Lamb and Steve Menzies. The Brisbane captain has the record for most games for one club.
The Vodafone Warriors have completed the NRL-NYC double the last four weeks running, leaving them second in the overall Club Championship, a title they won for the first time last year. While the Vodafone Warriors lie sixth in the NRL, the 2010 premiership-winning Vodafone Junior Warriors are now three points clear at the top of the NYC ladder and the Vulcans - featuring many Vodafone Warriors NRL squad players - are running third in the NSW Cup.
With five tries in the last four weeks, winger Manu Vatuvei is the Vodafone Warriors' leading try-scorer so far with nine in 12 games, one ahead of standoff James Maloney, who is the NRL's top points-scorers with 146.
