Source: www.rabbitohs.com.auThe South Sydney Rabbitohs have announced that the Club will have five captains throughout the 2012 season.
Michael Crocker, Roy Asotasi, Sam Burgess, Matt King and John Sutton will lead the Club this year as part of a leadership group which is charged with captaining the side week-in and week-out.
The announcement was made in the lead up to kick off at tonight's Return to Redfern international trial match between the Rabbitohs and the Warrington Wolves.
Head Coach Michael Maguire considered the leadership options amongst the playing group and consulted with the Rabbitohs' players on who should lead the Club in 2012.
The leadership group captaincy model was agreed upon by the players and staff of the Rabbitohs, with these five players being chosen as captains for 2012.
"One of these players will be appointed each game to toss the coin and speak with the referees, but on every other aspect of the team we operate as an entire group with these five players making up our captaincy," Coach Maguire said.
"It's a strong leadership model that everyone has bought into at the Club. I've experienced it at Wigan, and I've seen it work successfully at other Clubs and in other sports as well.
"We're confident that these five players will provide the leadership we need to operate as a team, and to continue our efforts to improve in everything we do."

Source: www.rabbitohs.com.auThe South Sydney Rabbitohs are delighted to announce the immediate signing of Englishman Luke Burgess until the end of the 2013 season.
Burgess, 24, is the older brother of Rabbitohs players Sam and George Burgess, and will join his siblings at the Club as early as next week.
Standing 188cm tall and weighing in at 111kg, the eldest of the four Burgess brothers will add to the Club's front row depth both this year and for the next two seasons.
Burgess has achieved wonderful success at the Leeds Rhinos and Harlequins having played 96 first team matches since making his debut in 2007 against Catalans, including a premiership victory in 2009 with the Rhinos. Burgess is no stranger to the Rabbitohs having played against South Sydney in the Australia Day Challenge match played in Jacksonville, USA in 2008.
Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson is pleased to have secured the signature of another Burgess for South Sydney.
"Luke will be a welcome addition to our front row stocks, not only now but also for the following two seasons," Mr Richardson said.
"We've been tracking Luke's progress with Leeds and we feel that he is ready to move to Australia and to prove himself in the NRL.
"He told us he wants to come out and live with his brothers and challenge himself in the NRL and what better Club to take on that challenge with than South Sydney.
"Obviously Sam has become one of the Club's leading lights and George is progressing well through our feeder Club at North Sydney, and we're looking forward to adding Luke to our roster and having him push for a first grade berth as well."

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have one of the richest histories in Rugby League. Established in 1908, the South Sydney Club has won 20 first grade premierships and provided 63 internationals for the Australian side, and have famously worn their cardinal red and myrtle green colours since inception. The rebirth of the Rabbitohs began on 7 June, 2006 through a new partnership between Russell Crowe, Peter Holmes a Court and the then 8000 Members of the Club. The Rabbitohs made the semi-finals for the first time in 18 years in 2007, and strengthened their Ticketed Membership to over 12,000 with over 20,000 Total Members in 2011.
