Burrow named Rhinos Player of the Year
Wed September 19, 2007

Great Britain international Rob Burrow was named the Leeds Rhinos Player of the Year last night at the club's Annual Awards Dinner.

At a glittering event held at the Queens hotel in Leeds City Centre, Burrow succeeded Gareth Ellis as the Player of the Year, sponsored by Network Securities and Gala Casinos.

Burrow has scored 14 tries in 27 appearances this season and was yesterday named in the engage Super League Dream Team. He has made over 200 appearances for the Rhinos since making his debut in 2001.

Jamie Jones-Buchanan was runner up whilst Ellis was named in third place. Speaking after picking up the award, Burrow was delighted to win the prize, "I am delighted to win this. I would like to thank Tony Smith for everything he has done for me in his time at the club. The season isn't over yet and we want to send him off in the best possible way.

"I must also thank my wife Lindsay. It is great to follow in the footsteps of previous winners and hopefully the season can get even better yet,"
added Burrow.

Other winners on the night included young Rhinos' star Jordan Tansey, who was named the Yorkshire Evening Post Shooting Star. Tansey, who famously scored the winning try over Bradford at the Millennium Stadium earlier this season, beat competition from Ryan Hall, Ashley Gibson, Michael Ratu and Carl Ablett to succeed Nick Scruton as the winner of the annual award for the best 24 year old or younger at the club.

Paul McShane, the England and Great Britain junior international hooker, was named Junior Academy Player of the Year and Michael Hayley put an injury ravaged season last year behind him this term to win the Senior Academy Player of the Year Award. The award was renamed in the memory of Chris Sanderson, the Leeds player who tragically died 30 years ago following a game against Salford at the Willows.

Jamie Thackray scooped the Leeds Building Society Try of the Season award for his effort at Catalans Dragons whilst Scott Donald won the Cravendale Commitment to the Community Award.

The club's Women's and Girls RL Co-ordinator Laura Clarke was given an award for outstanding service whilst the club's Media & PR Manager Phil Daly was named Clubman of the Year. Speaking after winning the award Daly said, "I am deeply honoured to win the award which has been won by such great clubmen like Jason Booth, Paul Daley, Billy Watts and Francis Cummins.

"I have had the privilege of working for Leeds Rhinos for ten years and I would like to thank Gary Hetherington for giving me a chance when I was just a student from Luton back in 1997.

"We have a fantastic team off the field at Headingley Carnegie and the club is in great shape for the future,"
added Daly.

Burrow cleared of serious injury
Wed August 8, 2007

Great Britain international Rob Burrow has been cleared of serious injury after x-rays revealed he had not suffered a break to his rib but he will miss the Rhinos clash with Salford this Friday at Headingley Carnegie.

Burrow went off in the first half of the Rhinos remarkable win at Harlequins on Sunday after suffering a blow to his ribs. However, x-rays have revealed no fracture and the scrum half is now recovering from bruised ribs.

Rhinos Physiotherapist Meirion Jones commented, "Rob is very sore at the moment but thankfully the x-rays have revealed that he has not suffered a fracture. The bruised ribs are uncomfortable and we will monitor his progress as he recovers but he will miss Friday's game against Salford."

Hooker Matt Diskin has been named in Tony Smith's 20-man squad for this Friday's game.

The Great Britain international has been out of action since fracturing a bone in his hand in the win over St Helens at the start of July.

However, he will return this Friday after being named in Smith's initial squad. Smith has drafted in teenage centre Michael Ratu to his squad as cover in the absence of Burrow.

The squad in full is:

1 Brent Webb
2 Scott Donald
3 Clinton Toopi
4 Keith Senior
5 Lee Smith
6 Danny McGuire
8 Kylie Leuluai
9 Matt Diskin
10 Jamie Peacock
11 Jamie Jones-Buchanan
12 Gareth Ellis
13 Kevin Sinfield (c)
14 Ali Lauitiiti
15 Jamie Thackray
16 Ryan Bailey
17 Nick Scruton
18 Ian Kirke
23 Jordan Tansey
25 Ryan Hall
27 Michael Ratu
