Civoniceva and Waterhouse set to miss final Panthers game

The Penrith Panthers have named their side to take on the St George Illawarra Dragons on Friday night at WIN Stadium.

Captain Petero Civoniceva and back-rower Trent Waterhouse have both not been named with knee injuries, the extent of which are at the moment unknown, meaning both may have played their final game for the club.

NSW back-rower Luke Lewis returns to the side at lock with Nathan Smith going into the second row, while Matt Bell makes a return for his final game at the club, replacing Civoniceva at prop.

It is with much regret that Petero Civoniceva has been granted a release from the final year of his contract with the Penrith Panthers.

Civoniceva met with General Manager Phil Gould last week and indicated his desire to return home to Brisbane to be with his family.

Phil Gould said, "The Panthers understand the reason behind Petero's decision and feel it would be unwise to stand in his way."

He added: "Petero has been tremendous for the Panthers. He has given great service to the club, the community; not to mention outstanding leadership to our team. His influence at Penrith will be evident long after he's gone."

In a statement today, Civoniceva said: "It is with regret today that I announce that I'm leaving the club.

"I've asked for a release, mainly due to the fact that I'm returning home to Brisbane with my family.

"In saying that I'd like to thank all the supporters for their support throughout my four years here."

"It has been a great four years, I've got plenty of memories and I look forward to seeing you all in the future."

Civoniceva has signed a one-year deal with the Brisbane Broncos.

While the Panthers wish Civoniceva and his family all the best for the future, the club is excited about continuing a relationship with him and appreciate his commitment to helping develop the game of Rugby League in the Western Sydney region.
