Another year for young Clubb
Fri February 9, 2007
Source: www.quins.co.uk

Harlequins RL three-quarter, Tony Clubb has signed a contract extension which will see the south-east Londoner stay with Quins RL at least until the end of the 2008 season.

Clubb made his top-flight debut in just the second game of the 2006 Super League season when called upon by then coach Tony Rea to line up against Bradford Bulls at Odsal Stadium.

Tony made 7 appearances for Quins RL last season, one of which included a hat-trick of tries in the club's home Cup tie against Toulouse.

Born in Gravesend, Tony became involved in rugby league through Greenwich Admirals, a club which developed when London Broncos were based at Charlton.

Of the new deal Tony commented: "I'm really happy to agree to another season. I just want to keep improving as a player and if I can do that, it will help the team. It was a thrill to make my debut last year and now I want to establish myself further. I love playing at this level."

Head coach Brian McDermott added: "He has come on in leaps and bounds as a player recently off the back of a very good pre-season.

"He has impressed both the coaching staff and the players around him and that hard work has been rewarded with a new contract."

In other news, Harlequins RL is pleased to announce that it has this week surpassed the season ticket sales figure set last year.

The club's recently launched Refer-A-Friend incentive programme has edged season ticket sales past last year's figure with a week to go before Quins first home game of the season.

New Harlequins deals for Sykes and Clubb
Wed May 10, 2006
Source: www.quins.co.uk

Harlequins Rugby League have extended the contract of injured star Paul Sykes for a further two years, and handed 18-year old Londoner Tony Clubb a full time two-year deal ahead of this Saturday's crunch battle with Bradford Bulls.

Sykes joined the London club from Bradford in 2002 and it was against Bradford that young Clubb made his top-flight debut in February this year.

Sykes, last year's leading points scorer for London Broncos, is the longest serving player in the current squad and best remembered last year for breaking the 17-year year record of most goals in a match with his perfect 12 from 12 (in snow) against Wakefield. His new contract will see him through to the end of the 2009 season with the Quins.

He was ruled out for the season after suffering serious kidney damage in the team's round four win against Hull FC. He continues to make a good recovery.

Quins RL Head Coach Tony Rea commented: "Paul has a very bright future in the game and we're delighted that future will be here with us at least for another few years.

"He'll bounce back even more determined after this year's set-back because that's the type of person he is."

Paul responded: "I'm really pleased to continue in London. I've had a great time over the past few years and I can't wait to get back playing.

"It's a slow process of recovery and it's something I can't rush but this sure will give me even more to aim for."

Former London Broncos Academy star, Tony Clubb, has become a regular figure in the top flight this season having been handed his debut in the Quins 18-18 draw away to Bradford in round two. He has penned a full-time two year deal.

Clubb commented: "I just can't believe what's happened to me already this year. It's like all my dreams coming true.

"I've worked really hard in the last few years to get to this point. Now I have a really good chance to develop further as a player. I'm really excited."

Tony Rea backed up Clubb's claims: "Tony has worked hard for this and he deserves to be rewarded for those efforts. With this new contract he will be in a better position to take advantage of every opportunity that comes his way in the game."
