Cooper to make 200th NRL appearance

St George Illawarra Dragons centre Matt Cooper will make his milestone 200th NRL appearance for the Club in the opening Round 1 clash against the Titans at Skilled Park, Gold Coast on Saturday night.

The Shellharbour junior will become only the second player in recent Dragons' history to achieve the landmark figure after Club captain Ben Hornby (226).

Cooper, 31, made his debut for the Club in the opening round of the 2000 season campaign, against the Sharks, and emphasises last season's Grand-Final victory as the highlight of his career thus far.

"I know it's a great achievement and I'm very proud of the figure," said Cooper.

"The Titans are a pretty good side all round with some great young backs and fast wingers, so it's going to be a tough game for us.

"We've done really well in the trials with our forward's so it's going to be a really tough battle up-front.

"That's the key to who wins the game."

Cooper and Smith return for the Dragons

Mark Gasnier's match-winning try on Friday night wasn't enough for him to win a starting position in the Dragons team for Friday's clash against the Gold Coast Titans at Kogarah's WIN Jubilee Oval.

Matt Cooper returns to the Dragons team after being injured in the second State of Origin match and has been rushed into the centres alongside Beau Scott.

Back-rower Jeremy Smith returns after a calf injury was aggravated during the round 16 match against the Wests Tigers.

Gasnier has been named on a six-man bench.
