Captain Kurt Gidley has been named despite being one of three injury concerns for the Knights following their emphatic victory over the Penrith Panthers on Sunday afternoon. An MRI yesterday revealed that the 28 year old had been cleared of any major injury to his back.
Young fullback Shannon McDonnell is on standby for Gidley following a stand out performance for the Central Coast Centurions during their 40-18 victory over the Windsor Wolves in the NSW Cup.
Unfortunately key recruit Neville Costigan underwent surgery on a broken arm late yesterday and is expected to miss a period of up to 12 weeks.
Cameron Ciraldo is looking for a big game in his first appearance for the Knights this season.
"The boys had a great win down in Penrith on Sunday and we're looking forward to our trip to Townsville," Ciraldo said.
"It's disappointing that we have a few key players with injuries but I believe that we've got the team to do the job this weekend.
"The Cowboys also had a great game in round one but we're up for the challenge."
Hooker Isaac De Gois left the field prior to the end of the game with what has now been confirmed as a broken thumb. De Gois is likely to be unavailable for a period of three to four weeks but 2010 Player of the Year Matt Hilder will move into the number nine jersey.

Source: www.newcastleknights.com.auThe Newcastle Knights are determined to get their second win of the season against the South Sydney Rabbitohs in round 5, with Isaac De Gois bouncing back from injury.
The hearts of Knights supporters and players alike stopped when Isaac De Gois was taken from the field with concussion just ten minutes into the first half.
While the hooker admits to not remembering a great deal of what followed, he bravely took to the field once more and gave his team a boost in the second half.
"I'm feeling good today, my head was a little swollen when I woke up this morning," said De Gois.
"I can't wait for Saturday night's clash against the Rabbitohs, it will be good to bounce back and be a part of the Knights second win for 2010."
The 2009 Knights' Player of the Year is looking forward to playing against New Zealand international Issac Luke.
"Issac is a tough defender and a smart player, he works well with his forwards and he is definitely a threat."
With just five days between games, the Knights feel up to the challenge and will be desperate for victory.
"The boys are glad that we have a short turnaround because we are itching to get on the field after a disappointing second half performance last night."
Halfback Scott Dureau silenced his critics and put his hand up for a permanent spot in the blue and red by getting ten points on the board with all five of his conversions successful.
"Scotty is a smart player with a great kicking game, he really knows how to organise our attack and has become a valuable part of our team," De Gois said.
