Hull FC and Domic agree to release settlement
Fri June 29, 2007

Hull FC has agreed a settlement with their Australian centre or back-row forward Sid Domic for the remainder of his contract, which runs out at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old Australian was released earlier this week to allow fellow countryman, St George-Illawarra half-back Mathew Head to join the club on a short term deal until the end of the season.

Hull has made it perfectly clear their decision to release Domic was purely a business one and was in no way a reflection on his performances.

Consequently, Hull has said it was imperative they agreed a settlement package which fully compensated him for their decision to remove him from the quota.

Head (25) arrived yesterday, and will make his debut in Sunday's Super League game against Salford City reds at the KC Stadium (3-15pm), which sees the return of former coach Shaun McRae.

Although delighted at having Head in his side, Hull boss Peter Sharp revealed today, the decision was one of the toughest he has had to make in his career.

"This was one of the toughest decisions I have had to make," said Sharp. "Unfortunately, in life you sometimes have to make a decision you'd rather not and this was one of those occasions."

Despite an extensive domestic search to find an organiser and leader, Hull had to turn their attentions overseas to find the right calibre of player needed to spearhead their challenge for a play-off place.

Chief executive James Rule said: "It was an extremely difficult decision but we felt it necessary in the light of the need for a leader and direction on the field.

"Before we made this decision we explored every domestic option before carrying out our search overseas and now we are confident Mathew Head will provide the leadership and direction we have been looking for."

Going abroad meant one of Hull's three overseas players, Matt Sing, Richard Swain and Domic had to be removed from the quota to allow Head to be registered.

With Swain and Domic out of contract at the end of the season and both currently injured it was almost certainly going to be of those two who would have to go.

Sharp admitted: "It is probably fair to say his hamstring injury came at the wrong time, especially as he is expected to be out for several more weeks.

"The disappointing thing is Sid is not finishing the way anyone would want him to end but sometimes that's not possible.

"The one things Sid can do is look back over his career here in England and at home in Australia with pride.

"Sid doesn't owe anybody, or himself, anything because he has been a tremendous professional, a dedicated one, totally committed and someone who you could always rely on to gives 100 percent. He never left anything out on the pitch - that was Sid.

"Throughout he also set a tremendous example to those around him, especially the youngsters.

"The way he prepared, trained, his attitude and the way he lived his life. It is a tremendous example to follow and if our youngsters go down the Sid Domic road then they won't go far wrong."

Rule also praised Domic for his commitment to the club, adding: "Sid has been a credit to himself and the club through his time with Hull FC. He has been a tremendous ambassador both on and off the field.

."On behalf of the directors, staff and fans of Hull FC I would like to wish Sid and his family all the best and every success in whatever he decides to do in the future."

Hull want to make it clear the settlement has been drawn up under a confidentiality agreement and therefore neither they nor Domic will comment further on the settlement.
