Wests Tigers CEO: Doctor was right to let Dwyer walk off

Wests Tigers CEO Steven Humphries has called in to Triple M's Dead Set Legends to refute criticism surrounding second-rower Simon Dwyer being allowed to walk off the field last night despite clearly being severely hampered thanks to a collision with Bulldogs prop Michael Hodgson.

Dwyer could barely walk as stumbled off the Campbelltown Stadium arena with the assistance of the club trainer.

"I was concerned as anyone at the look of Simon walking off," Humphries told Triple M's Dead Set Legends. "Simon was complaining of a shoulder injury. The trainer immediately called for the doctor."

"Simon was presenting as if he had a fracture or a dislocation of the shoulder. His neck was fine. There was no complaint of any other injury. He wasn't presenting as being concussed. He was quite alert.

"It was quite obvious he was rubbery legged. That was a result of periphery nerve damage from the impact, which extended down to his leg. As I understand, that's not uncommon to get some spasms there and some very temporary lack of control."

It has been suggested that Dwyer should have exited the area by stretcher or Medicab, a claim dismissed by the Wests Tigers boss.

"It's highly unusual to stretcher a player off for a shoulder injury."

Dwyer was transported to hospital for tests, which provided positive news for the rising star.

"He's had a series of scans overnight and I'm pleased to say he's been cleared of any serious injury," Humphries said.

"We're waiting for a further scan for the extend of the shoulder injury."

Humphries predicted Lote Tuqiri would return from injury in Round 20, while Chris Lawrence may return sooner.

"We have our fingers crossed he'll be back for our next match."
