Source: www.parraeels.com.auHalfback Brett Finch has committed long term to the Pirtek Parramatta Eels, agreeing to a new three year deal at the weekend.
The new agreement means Finch, who at just 26 years of age will play his 200th First Grade game against Brisbane in round 12, will remain an Eel until at least the end of the 2011 season.
"It was always my intention to stay at Parramatta and I'm over the moon to have the deal squared away," Finch said.
"I can't speak highly enough of the players and coaching staff, I've really enjoyed my footy over the past 18 months under Michael Hagan and I'm looking forward to that continuing between now and 2011.
"The team has a lot of potential within and I'm confident things will only get better as the season wears on, I have no doubt we're headed in the right direction.
"It'll certainly be a great honour and privilege to play my 200th First Grade game wearing a Parramatta jersey and I'm very proud to have played so many matches at the highest level."
Head Coach Michael Hagan said re-signing Finch was a priority for the team and for the club.
"It's an important retention, the stability and enthusiasm that Brett brings to the team is really important both on and off the field," Eels head coach Michael Hagan said.
"I think he's shown more consistency and understanding of the game this year than he has in his whole career, he's been instrumental in keeping us in games and helping us to win games this season.
"His temperament and confidence is a real plus for him at the moment and I look forward to him playing as vital a role both for the remainder of this year and also in coming seasons.
"I've also got to give Brett's manager Steve Gillis a wrap, the process was conducted swiftly and to the satisfaction of all parties."
Eels CEO Denis Fitzgerald has echoed his head coach's sentiments, hailing the halfback's decision to stay put as a vital one for the team.
"I'm personally very pleased that Brett has decided to commit to the Eels for the next three seasons," Parramatta Eels CEO Denis Fitzgerald said.
"He's in career best form and provides excellent stability and direction for the team around the park.
"He is also the kind of player you like to have around. He is a leader of men both on and off the field and is an enormously popular figure around the club."

Long serving Parramatta captain Nathan Cayless will miss the next four weeks after sustaining a broken hand during the Eels 20-12 victory against the Dragons last Sunday.
Josh Cordoba moves from the interchange bench into the starting side for Cayless. Daniel Wagon returns from illness to take his position at lock and Chad Robinson moves back to the reserves filling the vacancy left by Cordoba's promotion.
Parramatta coach Michael Hagan speaking on the
Eels website said,
"He has been one of our really good players so far this season and it is a blow to the team and to Nathan personally.
"Hopefully against the Roosters we can apply the necessary attitude and work hard again. It is going to be a tough game. They are obviously full of confidence and will be looking to play well at home as well."PJ Marsh has been named as starting hooker with Mark Riddell on the interchange bench as originally planned last week before Hagan swapped Marsh and Riddell around prior to kick off.
Nathan Hindmarsh who played his 200th match for Parramatta last week will takeover the captaincy in Cayless' absence. In further good news for the Hindmarsh family, older brother Ian will celebrate his 150th NRL match enjoying a successful career in his own right with Parramatta and two years at Canberra in 2004-05. Hindmarsh played the 2006 season with Super League club Catalans and played 24 matches with them before returning to Australia this year to look after his farm that has struggled with the drought.
Saturday's clash against the Sydney Roosters will be the first time Brett Finch faces his former club at Aussie Stadium. Finch played in the Eels Round 8 victory against the Roosters at Parramatta Stadium, but at Aussie Stadium this coming Saturday night he can expect a hostile reception. Finch had four controversial seasons at the Roosters where he endured plenty of critcism from supporters and even a group known as 'FOFF' was created with the aim of seeing the back of him out Bondi way.
Finch in his four seasons at the Roosters played in two Grand Final's and represented New South Wales on three occasions. However, his time at the Roosters came to a sudden halt last year when the club released him with a year remaining on his contract. Finch was involved in two major on-field incidents last year with the first being against North Queensland where he told Roosters supporters they can kiss his backside (different language used) and later in the season had a highly heated arguement during the middle of the game with captain Craig Fitzgibbon where the video footage was damming.
Both incidents summed up Finch's time at the Roosters where he polarised opinions despite playing with plenty of passion and heart on a weekly basis. Last week Finch lined up against arch-rival Jamie Soward whom both players competed for the Roosters No.7 jumper and now he lines up against Fitzgibbon and company in what promises to be an interesting battle to say the least with the Roosters supporters almost certain to add all the spice needed for the occasion.
