Folau out for eight weeks
Sat July 4, 2009
Source: www.broncos.com.au

ISRAEL Folau is expected to miss up to eight weeks of football after x-rays last night revealed he has a fractured ankle.

Folau has a fracture of the fibula after coming from the field early in the second half of last night's win over the New Zealand Warriors.

The plan by Brisbane Broncos' medical staff is to put him in a cast tomorrow. That cast will encase his foot for two weeks when the bone will be x-rayed again.

If it is judged the injury is healing sufficiently well, then Israel will be placed in a hinged ankle brace to complete his recovery.

Prop Joel Clinton received two head knocks last night and was sent to hospital after the completion of the game.

He was checked and released late last night and spent the night at home.

He has reported to club medical staff this morning and while he has some facial swelling, is expected to be fine for the Broncos' next match, against the South Sydney Rabbitohs on July 17.

The Broncos have the bye next weekend and there are no other injury concerns.

Campese's injury, Maroons first shot, Bears prepare to replace Sharks
Wed May 27, 2009
by Steve Mascord
NSW five-eighth Terry Campese has revealed he was recently told he would miss the rest of the season due to a serious foot injury while Queensland has fired the first verbal shot of the Origin series.

Those are the big interstate footy stories in today's edition of Rugby League Week magazine, which also reports that the Central Coast Bears are recruiting players for next season in case Cronulla goes broke.

"Against the Titans I done (sic) my foot. I was almost ruled out for the year, actually,'' Campese tells RLW as he breaks his silence about the reasons behind a recent form slump.

"But the scans showed it wasn't as bad as first expected. I've been playing with a bit of a busted foot.''

Maroons captain Darren Lockyer and winger Israel Folau have called for next Wednesday's referees to stop NSW using illegal tactics to stop the flying Tongan from getting to kicks.

Lockyer tells the magazine the reluctance of match officials to give penalties in Origin could unfairly hurt Folau.

"I don't think he should be disadvantaged by the fact he's just good at something,'' Maroons skipper Lockyer tells RLW.

"Sometimes the ref, I believe, can be a bit lenient towards the defence ... obviously if it's foul play I believe they shouldn't be afraid to blow a penalty.''

Folau added: "Going through to Origin, I expect players to try and block my way. I've been working on that, trying to find ways to get around it and get to the ball.''

Bears boss Greg Florimo, meanwhile, admits his club is sounding out players about joining them next year as the Sharks continue to flounder.

"We are making plans for next year in case an opportunity arises because you never know what scenarios will unfold over the next few months," Florimo says.

"We are focussing on 2013 but will make plans for next year should something happen."

Elsewhere, Arthur Beetson tells how he convinced Mal Meninga to coach Queensland when there was a big push on for Craig Bellamy to get the job.

Luke Patten predicts the Bulldogs can win the competition and Craig Fitzgibbon outlines his decision to quit Sydney Roosters.

Plus Greg Inglis, Chris Close, Petero Civoniceva, Mark Geyer, Brett Morris and the Sharks imbroglio - plus the best in pictures from around the league world.
