Bradford halfback Luke Gale will have an operation on his injured ankle this weekend and is expected to be unavailable for between six and eight weeks.

Gale sustained the injury in the opening minutes of the game against Wigan and after waiting for the swelling to go down and seeing a specialist it was decided an operation was neccessary.

Bulls Football Manager Stuart Duffy said:

"We are really disappointed for Luke but it's better he has the operation now so as to give him the earliest chance of returning to the side."

Harlequins RL half back Luke Gale will be leaving the club at the end of the season to join the Bradford Bulls.

Since signing for Quins in September 2008, the 23-year-old has made 68 appearances to date, scoring 20 tries and kicking 83 goals and landing four drop goals.

"I've had three years here and enjoyed every minute of it," said Luke. "I came down here from Doncaster and Quins gave me the chance to play Super League.

"I've learned all the time and the coaching staff and everyone have been brilliant and I've made the England Knights squad while I've been here.

"It will be sad to leave London but I wanted a new challenge and felt it was the right time to move on. I've still got five or so games left and the boys know that I'll give it 100 per cent because I'm still a Harlequins player until the end of the season."

Harlequins Head Coach Rob Powell said: "Luke has decided his future lies up north and as a club we respect this. We wish Luke well and thank him for his time over the last three years."

On his move to Bradford, Gale said: "I know a few of the lads there and I'm looking forward to it. It's a new challenge and I'd like to thank the work done by my agent Craig Harrison."
