Galea re-signs with the Raiders
Wed September 8, 2010
Source: www.raiders.com.au

The Canberra Raiders have been given a boost ahead of their match against Penrith on Saturday night, with news today that Danny Galea has re-signed a one year deal with the club for next season.

Originally on a one year deal with the club in 2010 Galea has had a fantastic back half of the year, after a broken hand in round one kept him sidelined for the first few weeks of the season.

Galea said he's happy to be remaining in Canberra and said he's fit into the Raiders system better than what he had hoped.

"Its good to re-sign with the club for one year and I'll be using that year to try and get a longer contract because I'm really enjoying myself in Canberra," Galea said. "I was a bit nervous when I signed to come here to Canberra and play for a new club but it's been an exciting year and I'm keen to stay longer.

"I like the quiet lifestyle of Canberra and it suits me. There's a good group of players here too and we all get along really well," he said. "I've been working hard to get back in the team and I'm just glad I can be a part of the run we've had recently. It's been great."

A former Panther, Galea said the chance to play finals football this weekend was something he was really looking forward too and said the whole squad was excited about what lays ahead of them.

"I haven't played semi-finals football since I played for Penrith in 2004 so I'm really looking forward to it," he said. "All of the teams in the top eight are playing well and we don't mind who we play in the finals we just can't wait to get out there."

Raiders Coach David Furner said Galea's re-signing was a reflection of the hard work and commitment he's put in this year and said the club was elated to have him on board for another season.

"Danny has been in tremendous form of late and he's making it really hard to leave him out of the squad each week and he deserves his spot," Furner said. "He's a hard worker and a great club man and we're happy to have him secured for another year."

Galea and Mataora in for Raiders
Tue May 18, 2010

Raiders forward Danny Galea and rookie Sam Mataora will return for the Green Machine this weekend against the St George Illawarra Dragons, after forwards Tom Learoyd-Lahrs (NSW) and David Shillington (QLD) were named for State of Origin one in Sydney.

The absence of the two Raiders big men will see Scott Logan move from the interchange bench to the starting front row, while Joe Picker will also step up from the bench into the starting side in the second row.

Forwards Galea and rookie Sam Mataora come onto the Raiders bench to join Troy Thompson and Brett Kelly.

Raiders Coach David Furner said although the loss of Learoyd-Lahrs and Shillington would be a tough one for the side, he said he knows the players coming into the squad can get the job done against the Dragons.

"Its good to have Shillo and Tommy in the origin series this year and they both deserve their spots," Furner said. "Thankfully we have some good depth in their positions and we can call on others to come into the team and perform for us.

"Danny Galea is an experienced forward who can cover a couple of positions, while I thought Sam Mataora made a strong debut against New Zealand two weeks ago."

RAIDERS: Josh Dugan, Joel Monaghan, Jarrod Crocker, Joel Thompson, Daniel Vidot, Terry Campese, Josh McCrone, Dane Tilse, Glen Buttriss, Scott Logan, Joe Picker, Bronson Harrison, Trevor Thurling. Subs: Brett Kelly, Danny Galea, Troy Thompson, Sam Mataora.
