Stanley Gene looking forward to Testimonial match
Mon January 21, 2008
Source: http://www.hullkr.co.uk

Stanley Gene was disappointed the scheduled game against Oldham was cancelled but is excited at the prospect of the fans seeing Rovers' new signings for the first time at his Testimonial match next Sunday.

Gene, whose testimonial started in January, is looking forward to the match against the Castleford Tigers at Craven Park, kick-off 2pm. Buoyed by the large turnout from the Hull FC fans at Paul King's recent testimonial game, Gene is hoping for similar support from the Rovers' faithful and rugby fans in general.

Gene said: "I can't wait for Sunday; it will be a very emotional day for me and my family. I have so much to look forward to this year both on and off the field. My main aim though is to do my talking on the park and I will always give 110%. Over my career, the supporters have always been superb at whatever club I have played for. However, the Rovers fans will always hold a special place in my heart and I will always consider Craven Park, home.

"I am looking forward to a large crowd especially with the new-boys on show; it will prove to them what magnificent fans we have at Craven Park. I can't thank Hull Kingston Rovers enough for what they have done for me."

With both clubs needing to see where they are at with their pre-season preparations, it promises to be a great spectacle and hard-fought contest. Although tickets are available for the match, supporters can still pay on the day.

Officials are confident of a great turnout to support a man who has given so much to the sport of rugby league.

Gene nears Rovers try century
Thu May 17, 2007
by Raymond Fletcher
Source: RFL

Stanley Gene of Hull Kingston Rovers needs three tries for a career century of touchdowns in 121 appearances for the club.

Gene has scored eight hat-tricks for Rovers, including a best match tally of four. His most notable hat-trick was for Rovers in their 60-14 Silk Cut Plate final defeat of Hunslet Hawks at Wembley in 1997.

The Papua New Guinea international returned for his second spell with Rovers this season. They first signed him from Goroka Lahanis 11 years ago and he scored two tries on his debut as a scrum half in a 70-8 win against South Wales (playing their first match) at Aberavon on 31 March 1996.

He moved to Gateshead Thunder in 2000, but followed the rest of the playing staff after the club merged with Hull FC. After two seasons he joined Huddersfield Giants for five years before spending 2006 with Bradford Bulls.

Gene made his return debut for Rovers at loose forward in a 26-16 engage Super League win at Wigan Warriors on 2 March this year.
