Source: www.qrl.com.auThe XXXX Queensland Maroons team was officially announced in front of more than 400 guests at a spectacular function on the Southern Plaza at Suncorp Stadium tonight.
The team for the series opener includes one newcomer to the Origin arena - Brisbane Broncos star Matt Gillett who will fill the all important utility role on a bench that includes big forwards David Taylor, Ben Hannant and David Shillington.
The May 23 match at Etihad Stadium will also mark the return of Brent Tate, who has been selected on the wing for his first Origin match since 2008.
Cameron Smith was announced as captain, while Mackay product and Manly halfback Daly Cherry-Evans was unveiled as the 18th man.
Another former Mackay junior - Melbourne Storm centre Dane Nielsen, has also been added to the squad as cover for the outside backs.
The Maroons squad will complete media commitments on Tuesday morning before flying to Melbourne to step up preparations.

Source: www.broncos.com.auDale Copley will fill the void left by injury to Jharal Yow Yeh and Matt Gillett has been promoted for Friday's huge clash against the Dragons.
Copley was named in the number five jersey to replace Yow Yeh who broke an ankle in the 20-12 win over the Rabbitohs last week.
It is a just reward for the patient Copley, who played in all three finals series matches last year and has waited for his chance in the Queensland Cup.
Gillett gets his first start of the year after shoulder surgery hampered his pre-season.
His great performance against the Rabbitohs has forced coach Anthony Griffin to start him at lock.
Ben Te'o drops back to the bench.
The Broncos will celebrate the 1992 premiership victory on the night, which was won over the St George Dragons.
