Source: www.titans.com.auOn the eve of this Sunday's season opener at Skilled Park, Jetstar Gold Coast Titan Josh Graham's focus just got a lot clearer.
The 25-year-old centre will line up against the Newcastle Knights after undergoing successful laser refractive correction at Southport's The Eye Centre during the off-season.
According to Vision Group surgeon Dr Darryl Gregor, the procedure improved Josh's short sightedness and distance vision.
"Prior to surgery Josh could not read a single letter on the eye chart without glasses and now post- surgery he can read the bottom line with eyesight better than 20/20," Dr Gregor said.
"Many people would be unaware Josh used to play wearing contact lenses which fell out onto the field of play from time to time.
"That's obviously not the best situation to be in for a professional footballer and an inconvenience he and his team simply didn't need.
"Footballers also play in varying lighting conditions these days, so it's imperative their vision is the best it can be," he said.
Graham, who played 23 of a possible 24 matches last season, has had several weeks to get used to his improved eyesight.
"The procedure only took ten minutes each eye and I was in and out of The Eye Centre within an hour.
"It was something I needed to do to improve my game and take away those back-in-the-mind doubts about whether the lenses were going to stay in or not.
"Wearing contact lenses on the field was just so annoying. I'd get dirt behind them and there would also be a glare factor when I was playing night games.
"Now it's awesome, it's the best thing I ever did. I couldn't speak more highly of it.''
Dr Gregor has performed successful vision corrective surgery on over 17,000 patients, including then-Brisbane Bronco and current Penrith Panthers captain Petero Civoniceva, world champion boxer Joe Bugner and Olympic gold medallist, Jon Sieben.

Chris Walker who starred for the Jetstar Titans with a personal haul of twelve points including two tries has undergone surgery today after fracturing a bone in his thumb late in the contest. His place will be taken by Mathew Petersen who scored three tries during a thirty minute burst for Queensland Cup side Tweed Heads Seagulls in the Curtain Raiser to the Titans debut.
Petersen was stretchered from the field after injuring his ankle, however has made a remarkable recovery to win his place in the starting line-up.
Josh Graham has replaced James Stosic on the bench with Stosic ruled out with a foot injury.
