Guerra extends Roosters contract until 2015

Sydney Roosters backrower Aidan Guerra has agreed to a three-year extension keeping him at the club until the end of 2015.

The new agreement comes at an exciting time for the Roosters, with the club also securing contract extensions with players including Anthony Minichiello, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Joseph Leilua within the last month.

Guerra expressed his delight at extending his contract with the club.

"I've already been at the Roosters for three years and I'm really happy here. I've made some great friends and learnt a lot and that's a big part of the reason I really wanted to stay at the club," he said.

"I'm excited that I will continue to play and develop with the talented group of players here at the Roosters over the next three years."

Roosters Head Coach Brian Smith was enthusiastic about Guerra's decision to extend his time at the club.

"Aidan is a strong, talented young forward with his best footy still ahead of him and we are very pleased to have been able to agree to terms to extend his time at the club," he said.

24-year-old Guerra made his first-grade debut with the Roosters against the South Sydney Rabbitohs in Round 1 of the 2010 season and has played 29 NRL games to date.

He joins fellow young current Roosters players Mitchell Pearce, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Jake Friend, Martin Kennedy, Mose Masoe, Mitchell Aubusson and Tom Symonds on long-term contracts, falling in line with the Club's commitment to developing its youth.

Guerra - Duck, spin and weave

Much like his playing style Aidan Guerra is an interesting character.

Just like you never quite know what Guerra is going to say next, opposition defenders don't seem to know whether he is going to try duck, weave or spin.

It's this unconventional playing style that has seen the back rower score ten tries in just 25 NRL games.

"I guess you can call my style unconventional," Guerra said.

"Whatever feels natural and comes to me at the time I am running the ball I just do."

"I do whatever I have to do to beat the guy in front of me wether that is over, under, around him or if I have to step or spin, I just head towards the space."

The 24 year old almost gives off a NFL running back vibe the way he approaches the game but Guerra says his game is very much a work in progress.

"It's very early days in my career and I have plenty of work to do," he said.

" I'm trying to work on my run selection, so should I run hard and fast over someone or should I try and run in to space."

"At the moment it feels natural to spin in to space but I want to try and get away from that and start to react a bit more to the situation I find myself in on the field."

"Defensively I have never put a hit on in my life."

"I think I have a relatively good footy brain so I like to verbalise it out on the field and keep cool when we're under pressure."

Most players when you ask them preferred playing position you know they are going to toe the party line and tell you they don't care, and sometimes they don't.

Not Aidan.

"The second row is where I prefer to play and hopefully I can stay there and keep working on my combos."

Another thing Guerra has been working on is his diet.

Whilst not fully on board, the Queenslander says he is picking up some of the organic principles that are sweeping through the club.

"I can see the benefits in eating organically and I am implying some of the principles we have been taught but I'm not solely going organic," he said.

"For me it is about taking the ideas on board and implying them but mainly just doing the simple things like less carbohydrates and more protein."

So now we know what he does on the field, what about off it?

"I think a lot of different thoughts, my mind just doesn't stop."

This is evident in some of the tweets from his account @GuerraA88

Just last week Guerra had one of his tweets appear in the RLW tweets of the round section with this gem.

My hairdresser speaks another language to the other workers. Is she talking shit about me? Is a $12 haircut worth the insecurities? #iwonder

When not receiving cheap haircuts Guerra says he spends a majority of his time streaming television shows from around the world.

"Shows like Californication, East Bound and Down I have them all and they consume me for a few hours a day"

"I don't like sitting around doing nothing, my mind wanders off to easily so I like to get out with the boys and just hang out."

Guerra is also a certified personal trainer but says that career path is currently on the back burner as he concentrates solely on footy.

So despite his unpredictability what we do know is that Guerra is one of the most well liked amongst his teammates and whichever way he decides to spin with the ball in hand on Sunday, it's more than likely going to confuse the opposition, and that's just how we like it.
