Paleaaesina and Hansen re-sign with Wigan
Tue November 14, 2006

Wigan Warriors can today confirm that both Harrison Hansen and Iafeta Paleaaesina have extended their contracts with the club which will keep them at the JJB Stadium until the end of 2010.

Speaking about the news Chairman Maurice Lindsay said,

"Harrison and Feka are both young and in signing long term they are part of our plans to build a consistent team for the future. Most successful teams in Rugby League keep their players together for a number of years. St Helens have had a nucleus of players who have been together for several years. Successful Wigan teams of the past were built on the same principles. Players get used to each others styles and that produces consistent performances."

Wigan have now re-signed Gareth Hock, Sean O' Loughlin, Harrison Hansen and Iafeta Paleaaesina within the past few weeks.

Lindsay added,

"The average age of the side is now quite young, this added to the experience of players like Bryan Fletcher, Trent Barrett and Phil Bailey gives the side a nice balance."

Six NRL players named in New Zealand Test squad
Thu June 8, 2006
by Matthew O'Neill
New Zealand Rugby League selectors today named a 22-man squad for the International against Great Britain on 28th June with six players coming from NRL clubs.

Brisbane forward Greg Eastwood, Melbourne backrower David Kidwell, Parramatta prop Fui Fui Moi Moi, Bulldogs halfback Ben Roberts, Roosters centre Iosia Soliola and Leeds bound Warriors centre Clinton Toopi.

It's believed that Eastwood, Kidwell and Roberts have been given permission by their clubs to play in the International whilst Moi Moi and Soliola are unlikely to given permission by Parramatta and the Roosters respectively. Toopi is already on the way out from the Warriors and has been out of favour thoughout the season.

New Zealand coach Brian McClennan has said that the captaincy will come out of Kidwell or halfback Stacey Jones. It's a massive boost for the Kiwis to have Jones available for the clash and his experience will pass on a great deal to what is practically a second string side. Jones was a major reason New Zealand won the Tri-Nations last year and his absence from the Test against Australia was noticed in the lop-sided scoreline. Thomas Leuluai who played in the Test match last month has missed out on selection in the squad despite playing for the Harlequins this season.

Wigan's Harrison Hanson is a new face in the squad along with Eastwood, Roberts and if they're allowed to play Moi Moi and Soliola.

Five players will be omitted from the squad a week before the Knowsley Road International.

New Zealand Squad: Vinnie Anderson (St Helens), Jason Cayless (St Helens), Alex Chan (Catalans), Greg Eastwood (Brisbane), Henry Fa'afili (Warrington), Harrison Hanson (Wigan), Shontayne Hape (Bradford), Stacey Jones (Catalans), David Kidwell (Melbourne), Ali Lauiti'iti (Leeds), Francis Meli (St Helens), Fui Fui Moi Moi (Parramatta), Iafeta Palea'aesina (Wigan), Robbie Paul (Huddersfield), Ben Roberts (Bulldogs), David Solomona (Wakefield), Iosia Soliola (Roosters), Logan Swann (Warrington), Willie Talau (St Helens), Motu Tony (Hull FC), Clinton Toopi (Warriors), Leslie Vainikolo (Bradford).
