Bulls to make presentation to Hape

Bradford Bulls will make a presentation to Centre Shontayne Hape after his final game for the club on Sunday against Hull KR.

Hape, who joined the club from the New Zealand Warriors at the start of the 2003 Super League season, has made 135 appearances and scored 84 tries for the Bulls. He will leave to club on June 30th to take up a contract with Bath Rugby.

Bulls General Manager Ryan Duckett said today:

"Shontayne has played a big part in the success of the Bulls since he joined the club. He leaves with our best wishes and we wish him every success in his new career. We hope as many of our supporters as possible will join with us in giving him a fitting send off and thank him for his time with the Bulls."

Bulls agree to release Hape
Mon May 26, 2008

Bradford Bulls have today announced that they have agreed to Shontayne Hape's request to a release from his contract to take up a three year deal with Bath Rugby. Hape's contract with the Bulls was due to expire at the end of the 2008 season and the Bulls have received an undisclosed fee for granting him an early release.

Hape, who joined the club from the New Zealand Warriors at the start of the 2003 season, will leave the Grattan Stadium on June 30th after six years with the club. During that time Hape has scored 83 tries in 131 games for the Bulls and has featured in 14 Test Matches for New Zealand.

Bulls Coach Steve McNamara fully understands the reasons for Hape's departure:

"Shontayne is a fantastic player and he has been a great servant to Bradford Bulls. He will be a big loss to us but I fully understand his position. Everyone has big decisions to make at certain stages of their careers and Shontayne is at a crossroads and has decided to follow a certain path. He goes with our blessing and he has put his heart and soul into Bradford Bulls and we would not stand in the way of this opportunity. I wish him every success in the future."

Hape said it was a difficult decision to make:

"It was a very difficult decision to make because the Bulls have done so much for me. They took me in as a kid - I was only 21 - and I only planned on staying a couple of years but I loved the club's family-orientated feel, the atmosphere, the coaches, players and the fans. They made me want to stay and now it's my second home. I'll never forget Bradford.

"The main reason was the opportunities rugby union can offer me but also I feel I needed a change and a new challenge. I've been at Bradford six years and believe the best thing for me and my family is to move on."
