Three new caps for England v Australia Sat October 30, 2010 by engage Super League Source: www.superleague.co.uk
England coach Steve McNamara has named three new caps in his team for the Four Nations fixture against Australia in Melbourne on Sunday.
Leroy Cudjoe of Huddersfield Giants will make his international bow at centre as a replacement for the injured Michael Shenton, who returns home after the weekend for treatment on an ankle ligament strain.
Cudjoe's club-mate Shaun Lunt wins his first cap on the interchange bench alongside Warrington Wolves forward Ben Harrison, who debuts for the country of his birth having represented Ireland in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.
England have switched Engage Super League Young Player of the Year Sam Tomkins from stand-off to full-back, the position he filled with considerable success for Wigan Warriors this season, and have promoted Sam Burgess to the front row.
Sean O'Loughlin moves from loose forward to stand-off, where he will play alongside Luke Robinson, who gets his first start in an England shirt.
McNamara said the changes he had made were entirely tactical, with the exception of Shenton's tournament-ending injury.
"We have picked a team we think is the right team to play against Australia," said McNamara.
"We are very comfortable with the team, this team is more suited to this game than the one we selected last week.
"I'm very happy with the personnel who will play Australia. This is a wonderful opportunity for some of the young boys who haven't played in the last couple of week but who have been impressive in the way they have prepared with the squad.
"The three new caps are ready to play, it's the right time for them and the right time for England."
The England team for the match against Australia on Sunday October 31 at Aami Park, Melbourne, is as follows (professional club and community club in brackets):
1 Sam Tomkins (Wigan Warriors, Wigan St Patricks) 2 Darrell Goulding (Wigan Warriors, Wigan St Patricks) 3 Leroy Cudjoe (Huddersfield Giants, Newsome) 4 Ryan Atkins (Warrington Wolves, 5 Tom Briscoe (Hull FC, Featherstone Lions) 6 Sean O'Loughlin (Wigan Warriors, Wigan St Patricks) 7 Luke Robinson (Huddersfield Giants, Siddal) 8 Sam Burgess (South Sydney, Dewsbury Moor) 9 James Roby (St Helens, Blackbrook) 10 James Graham (St Helens, Blackbrook) (capt) 11 Gareth Ellis (Wests Tigers, Castleford Lock Lane) 12 Joel Tomkins (Wigan Warriors, Wigan St Patricks) 13 Ben Westwood (Warrington Wolves, Normanton Knights) Interchange 14 Stuart Fielden (Wigan Warriors, Illingworth) 15 Eorl Crabtree (Huddersfield Giants, Huddersfield YMCA) 16 Ben Harrison (Warrington Wolves, Barrow Island) 17 Shaun Lunt (Huddersfield Giants, Ellenborough)
Australia v England in the 2010 Four Nations will be screened live on Sky Sports 1 from 7.00am (KO 7.30am GMT) on Sunday October 31 with extended highlights shown on BBC2 at 5.05pm.
Rleague Interview: Ireland Second Rower Ben Harrison Thu November 6, 2008 by Matthew O'Neill Ireland ran out convincing 34-16 victors against Samoa in the Pool C World Cup clash at Parramatta Stadium last night and one of their outstanding performers was Warrington backrower Ben Harrison.
The victory by Ireland saw them finish above Tonga and Samoa to win Pool C and advance through to the Qualifying Final where they'll play Fiji at Skilled Park on the Gold Coast with the winner taking on Australia in the Semi Finals.
Rleague.com was lucky enough to speak to Harrison after the match and he spoke openly about Ireland's World Cup campaign and the prospects for Warrington next year.
Harrison regarded the victory as one of the highlights of his career and admitted that he was confident that Ireland would emerge victors if they stuck to their game plan due to their superior fitness.
Harrison said he would be blown away by the opportunity to play Australia if Ireland is lucky enough to topple Fiji on Monday night.
When talking about Warrington's prospects for next year, he said there's no more excuses and it's time they delivered on their promise.
Harrison is one of the bright stars in the game today and has a long future in front of him.
