The Newcastle Knights are proud to announce Gold Coast Utility, Matt Hilder has agreed to terms until at least the end of the 2009 season.

The Cronulla junior will call EnergyAustralia Stadium home from next season, signing a two year deal.

"He's a valuable utility player," said Knights Coach, Brian Smith.

"We feel we needed to add some versatility to our forward pack. He has dummy half, five-eighth and back row skills and he's also a competent goal kicker.

"Matt has a terrific personality and sense of humour and he's a great team man so he'll fit in well at the Knights."

Titans sign Matt Hilder

Consistent Cronulla utility Matt ("Trouble") Hilder has agreed to a one year deal with the Gold Coast Titans, the twenty-four year old, the 25th player to be added to Coach John Cartwright's impressive NRL Roster.

A mobile player with exceptional skills, Hilder is as comfortable in the pack - as he is at five eighth. Hilder's versatility making him a perfect final choice to close out the Titans squad.

Gold Coast Titans Head Coach John Cartwright said, "Had I known Matt was off contract earlier we certainly would have made securing his services a much higher priority, he is a quality recruit, a strong runner, a talented ball player and there are a lot of tries scored around him."

A Cronulla Junior, Hilder shocked many at the Sharks and in the Shire when he instructed his Manager to contact the Gold Coast Club and begin negotiations.

Comment from Matt Hilder, "I love the Club's attitude and I am excited about what they are setting out to achieve. I believe there will be good opportunity for me to prove myself under Coach John Cartwright and with the quality squad they have pulled together on the Gold Coast."

Cartwright believes the change will do Hilder the world of good and that the Titans have signed him at just the right time.

Comment from John Cartwright, "There is a thought that a player only really graduates in the top grade once he has registered a hundred first grade games. Matt's almost reached that milestone early in his career. I feel the change and the opportunity of coming to a team like the Titans will see him develop from strength to strength."

Hilder has been one of the Sharks most consistent players since joining Cronulla's senior ranks in 2003 when he was voted both Rookie and Forward of the year. "Trouble" as he is affectionately known (because he is no trouble) made his NRL debut against the Melbourne Storm on March 16 2003. (Rnd 1).

To date Hilder has played 82 games scoring 19 tries and kicking 30 Goals for a total of 136 points.

"Matt is our 25th signing", said Gold Coast Titans Managing Director Michael Searle "and whilst some may think this would bring to an end our player recruitment this is not the case. The acquisition of additional player talent capable of supporting our team will require a squad of about 35 players. I would not rule out further player signings which may include recruits with NRL experience to reinforce that objective."

Gold Coast Titans Squad:

Forwards: Matt Hilder (Sharks) Daniel Conn (Bulldogs) James Stosic (Sharks), Mark Minichiello (Souths) Clint Amos (Cowboys) Michael Henderson (Dragons) Michael Hodgson (Raiders) Frank Puletua (Panthers) Luke Bailey (Dragons) Anthony Laffranchi (Tigers) Luke Swain (Panthers) Brad Meyers (Bradford) Nathan Friend (Storm) Luke O'Dwyer (Eels)

Backs: Lelea Paea (Roosters) Brett Delaney (Eels) Jake Webster (Melbourne Storm) Gavin Cooper (Cowboys) Steve Turner (Melbourne Storm) Preston Campbell (Panthers) Brian Carney (Newcastle) Matt Petersen (Eels) Scott Prince (Tigers) Richie Mathers (Rhinos) Josh Graham (Western Force)
