Raiders re-sign Hinchcliffe

Canberra Raiders rookie Ryan Hinchcliffe will remain with the Green Machine in 2008, after agreeing to a new one year deal today.

Hinchcliffe became a priority signing for the Raiders after an impressive debut season at NRL level, in which he played seven matches in the top grade.

On top of this Hinchcliffe was also named the Raiders Premier League player of the year for the second year in succession, and captained the side during their finals campaign.

Hinchcliffe said he is excited to have his future in Canberra secure for another year and is ready to get some more time in the top grade next season.

"It's great to have my future secured for another year and I'm looking forward to next season," Hinchcliffe said. "The way things are restructured here next year I'm lucky to get an opportunity and hopefully I can make more of an impact in first grade in 2008."

Hinchcliffe said the young Raiders outfit had learnt a lot in their first year under Neil Henry, and would return in 2008 with a better understanding of each others games and the Coaches strategies.

"I'll be looking to bring some more enthusiasm into the team whether it be starting or coming off the bench I'm just looking for a spot in the seventeen," he said. "We have a pretty young playing group and we gained plenty of experience from this year through our new coach and new style of play, and I think we'll be a lot better for it."

Raiders Coach Neil Henry said the Raiders were thrilled to have Hinchcliffe back in green in 2008, and said it would help sure up depth in what is a key position on the field.

"Its great news for the club to have Ryan on board for another year and after playing seven games in first grade he's showed he's a player of promise," Henry said. "We have a number of options now in the hooking position which will benefit us next year."
