Source: www.bulldogs.com.auMitsubishi Electric Bulldogs five eighth Daniel Holdsworth has re-signed with the Club until the end of the 2009 season.
Holdsworth, 22, had a sensational debut season for the Bulldogs in 2006, playing in all 26 games with the first grade side.
Commenting on the re-signing, Bulldogs coach Steve Folkes said,
"Five eighth is a key position and many people were wondering how Daniel would handle the role at the Bulldogs. As far as the Club's concerned he exceeded all our expectations and we're really looking forward to seeing him get even better over the next few years."Holdsworth said,
"2006 was a fairytale year for me. I came to the Bulldogs hoping to become a regular first grader and I ended up playing in every game.
"The chance to stay at the Bulldogs until at least 2009 was an easy decision to make and with so many great players here, my game can only get better."Holdsworth was born at Tweed Heads but grew up in Perth, Western Australia where he played all his junior football at North Beach Rugby League Club.
He represented Western Australia in rugby league at U15 and U18 levels and was a member of the 2001 Australian school boys side.
Holdsworth had two years with Penrith (2002-3) before moving to the Dragons for the 2004 and 2005 seasons, playing five first grade games.

The Bulldogs have received a massive boost heading into the 2007 Telstra Premiership season with five-eighth Daniel Holdsworth agreeing to remain at Canterbury until the end of the 2009 season.
Holdsworth was spotted as an unknown talent in the St George Illawarra side by Steve Folkes during the 2005 season and Folkes signed him up for the 2006 season. Folkes' faith in Holdsworth was rewarded with the young Western Australia pivot playing in all 26 matches last year.
With the five-eighth spot open and Holdsworth only regarded as a reserve grader by the Dragons who even struggled to get a game when Trent Barrett was injured, he saw his opportunity to play regular first grade at the Bulldogs behind a strong pack of forwards. What has been the Dragons loss has turned into the Bulldogs gain.
Holdsworth in one season proved himself to be the most consistent five-eighth the Bulldogs have had since Craig Polla-Mounter who officially wore the No.6 jersey during the Bulldogs remarkable Grand Final charge in 1998 and pretty much played as a five-eighth during Terry Lamb's final years at Belmore with Lamb more or less playing as a halfback in the post Mortimer era.
With Brent Sherwin in the twilight of his career at Canterbury, the re-signing of Holdsworth became important as the Bulldogs regard him highly as the player who can steer them around the park in the coming years as Sherwin, Polla-Mounter, Lamb and Steve Mortimer have done in the past.
The Bulldogs face another uphill battle to re-sign the nucleus of their players such has been their development system where players improve out of sight under the guidance of Folkes and the Bulldogs coaching staff. The re-signing of Holdsworth is a big bonus and it appears likely that Sonny Bill Williams will knock by offers from the Roosters and English Super League clubs to sign a three year deal with the Bulldogs.
Other players off contract are veterans Mark O'Meley, Hazem El Masri, Matthew Utai, Corey Hughes and Adam Perry and exciting youngster Ben Roberts.
