Hornby returns for Rabbitohs clash
Tue July 26, 2011
Source: www.dragons.com.au

St George Bank Dragons captain Ben Hornby will make his return from injury to face the South Sydney Rabbitohs at WIN Stadium, Wollongong this Sunday

Hornby, who has been sidelined since Round 17 with a fractured right hand, and Props Dan Hunt (tricep) and Jon Green (virus) are the only changes to the squad who played against the Canberra Raiders in Canberra on Monday.

"It will be exciting to return to the field after missing a few games in recent weeks," said Hornby. "Our clashes against the Rabbitohs are always tough and close and we will be looking to bounce back strongly after last Round".

The Dragons have provided 200 tickets to local Indigenous organisations and families that the Club works with
to help support the NRL's "Close the Gap" campaign this weekend.

The Club has been scheduled "away" for the official NRL "Close the Gap" Round next week which is aimed at improving the life expectancy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

1 Darius Boyd, 2 Brett Morris, 3 Mark Gasnier, 4 Matt Cooper, 5 Jason Nightingale, 6 Jamie Soward, 7 Ben Hornby [c], 8 Dan Hunt, 9 Nathan Fien, 10 Michael Weyman, 11 Beau Scott, 12 Ben Creagh, 13 Matt Prior. Subs: 14 Adam Cuthbertson, 15 Jon Green, 16 Trent Merrin, 17 Mitch Rein, 18 Kyle Stanley (one to be omitted).

Dragons land in the UK
Wed February 23, 2011
Source: www.wiganwarriors.com

St George landed in the UK over the weekend as preparations continue for Sunday's PROBIZ World Club Challenge game against Wigan here at the DW Stadium, 7.15pm kick off.

On arriving at Heathrow we caught up with Dragons Head Coach Wayne Bennett, Captain Ben Hornby and World Cup winner Nathen Fien on their thoughts on the week ahead.

Head Coach Bennett told us,

"It's always nice to be here. We've just come out of a very hot summer at the moment to a cold winter but that's part of the deal.I've been over here a few times and there are some players that haven't but we've got a week to acclimatise and do the best we can.

"The weather is a factor but it doesn't have to be a big factor. And there's a benefit too for us because when we played on Friday night the humidity was very very high and the guys were sweating in the changing room even warming up. By half time they were pretty tired and exhausted so the heat can knock you around whereas the cold isn't going to do that to you and you can get your second wind pretty easy."

On the WCC itself, Bennett added,

"I've always been a fan of the World Club Challenge, I've always been in favour of it and I'm please to bring the great St George Illawarra club here to play.A lot of the players haven't been to Britain before so I suppose it will be a little bit of a challenge but we know what we've come here for, to play well and that's our priority.

"In between that I'll try and make sure they enjoy the week as well, without going over the top. You get a better result by doing that than just coming here and trying to be absolutely switched on from the time we land. We're going to take a couple of days to get our legs back and start to feel good about ourselves again after such a long flight. I'm confident we'll be OK by Sunday."

On landing at Heathrow, Ben Hornby told us,

"The flight wasn't too bad, we had a stop over in Bangkok so we had a bit of a rest there and had a bit of a sleep before we got here.We didn't pick up any injuries from the two warm up games we've had so we're coming in at full strength. It's going to be tough but we're looking forward to it.

"It's my first time in Britain, as it is for a lot of the boys. The conditions will be a little bit different but we'll go out there and do our best. We're really looking forward to it, we've had two trials, and two good wins and we're pretty confident we can play well.

"We're really enthusiastic about the World Club Challenge, we obviously want to win. It's going to be different for us, but if we go out there and play our best then we'll be in the game.

"The conditions in Wigan will be a bit of an unknown for us but we'll get a week of training in and I'm sure we'll get acclimatised to the conditions as best we can and hopefully it won't affect our performance too much."

On facing the Warriors, Ben added,

"I don't know too much about the Wigan players to be honest, obviously they've got a few blokes from the Storm who we know and obviously we know the coach. They're a good side and I'm sure they'll play well.Hopefully this week we'll get a day or two off to get round and have a look at a few things which we're looking forward to."

Nathan Fien is a World Cup winner with New Zealand and is used to playing games over here, he told us,

"I've been over here before with the Kiwis, the last Four Nations wasn't a real successful tour for us, hopefully we can turn that around but I'm very excited to be back playing over here again.

I love playing in front of the crowds, they're awesome. We're expecting a bumper crowd, very parochial I guess you would say and I can't wait to get out and play in front of them.

"We're played two trial games and won both so we're going alright but this game is going to a very big test for us. Wigan obviously won Super League last year and they're a class outfit. Tommy Leuluai was my roomy in the Four Nations last year and I know he's very excited about it. I can't wait to get out and play against him."
