Source: www.hullfc.comHull FC stalwart Richard Horne says a warm weather camp is just what he and the squad needs as they continue their preparations for the new season.
Horne and his teammates will jet off to Tenerife tomorrow for a one-week camp, which forms a key part of the club's pre-season training programme.
It is the first time in four seasons that the Black and Whites have headed to foreign shores as part of their training schedule and Horne says it will be a welcome change for the players.
"It's something the boys have been looking forward to since that first day of pre-season training," said the Hull-born half back.
"We've put in a lot of hard work on the training field over here to make sure we are in the best possible shape, but heading to somewhere a little warmer is always welcome.
"The weather hasn't been too bad here so far, but the Tenerife camp will be a good way for us to work on some different things and come together as a team.
"We have a lot of new faces for next season, so it's important that we take the time to gel as well as we can and hopefully we can then see the benefits of that on the field."
As well as being the first pre-season training camp for new head coach Peter Gentle and the eight new players in Hull's first team squad, the Tenerife trip will also be a welcome change for Horne.
With the 29-year-old stand-off missing the previous few camps due to injury, he says taking part in a full pre-season training programme has left him feeling fresh and strong.
And as he looks to build an exciting new partnership with Brett Seymour ahead of the 2012 campaign, Horne is hoping to reap the rewards.
"We've managed to do quite a bit of ball work so far in training, but we'll probably be looking to step that up in Tenerife," he said.
"We'll be playing a completely different way next season, so we need to be putting in the hard yards now and looking to take what we have been working on into the friendlies.
"Brett and I will be looking to spend as much time out on the field together as we can, but it's not just about the two of us.
"We have Jamie Ellis and Danny Nicklas in the squad, plus a new hooker in Aaron Heremaia, so it's important we all work together and get used to how each other plays."
Meanwhile, Horne also says he cannot wait to step out at the KC Stadium again in front of the club's passionate fans.
Now entering his 12th season with the club, the Hull star has witnessed the dedication and loyalty of the Old Faithful first-hand, with more than 17,000 supporters turning out for his testimonial match against Hull KR in 2010.
With a pre-season friendly against the Red and Whites on the horizon and season pass sales smashing through the 8,000 mark over the new year period, Horne has paid tribute to the Black and Whites fans.
"They are the best fans in the game and turn up in great numbers home and away," he said.
"It may sound like a cliche, but they really do make a huge difference to the players and we certainly appreciate their support.
"To sell so many season passes is a testament to how fanatical they are and all the players can't wait to start playing again so we can step out on the field in front of them once again."

Source: www.superleague.co.ukHull FC half-back Richard Horne had his big night ruined by one of his former apprentices as Wakefield Trinity Wildcats triumphed at the KC Stadium.
Horne was making his 300th appearance for his hometown team, but it was Tommy Lee, a 23-year-old scrum-half who failed to live up to his potential during five inconsistent seasons on Humberside, who was the star of the show as Wakefield enjoyed a third win at this venue in the last five seasons.
Like Wakefield coach John Kear, Lee was shown the door by Hull, and proved a point to his former employers in the most emphatic of manners with a match-winning performance at scrum-half.
His second-half try sealed victory and condemned Hull to a fifth defeat in six games this season.
Horne led Hull out before the kick-off, and was joined by veteran scrum-half Sean Long, available again after the latest in a long line of injuries that have hampered his time with the Black and Whites.
Hull FC coach Richard Agar has often bemoaned the fact that he rarely gets to play the same combination at six and seven, so his decision to start Long ahead of Sam Obst, who had played the last three alongside Horne, was somewhat surprising.
That did not stop Hull starting well, though, and Joe Westerman looked good for an early score until he shelled Long's pass close to the line.
Lee then started to go through his repertoire, putting in Frankie Mariano, who should have done better than lose possession.
Teenage winger Reece Lyne, someone whom Hull rate as highly as they once did Lee, was then dumped in touch by Aaron Murphy as he dived for the line, before Long set Danny Tickle free only for the second-rower to lack support on either side.
The profligacy continued from Hull, and England wing Tom Briscoe knocked on as he went to touch down a Cameron Phelps pass. Within seconds, Mariano gave Wakefield a 17th-minute lead.
Hooker Julien Rinaldi, another outstanding contributor, was at the heart of the move, breaking through and then releasing the former Hull KR forward, who did the rest, with Josh Griffin converting.
Willie Manu was sent on to liven up Hull and he immediately set Briscoe free, only for him to replicate his earlier knock-on, before Lyne inexplicably planted a foot in touch after Horne had given him a free run to one of the easiest tries he would ever have scored.
Glenn Morrison was denied a second Wakefield try when Whiting pushed him out of play after Lee had engineered a two-man overlap.
Hull got the try their territory, if not their execution, deserved three minutes after the restart, although the Wakefield defenders were left debating with referee Thierry Alibert as to whether or not Tickle got over the line in scoring. Tickle added the extras from the touchline.
Stuart Howarth tried to burrow his way over for Wakefield but was stopped just short, before his side edged back ahead with a penalty from Griffin on the hour.
The next try was always going to be crucial and so it proved as, following a Phelps error, Lee got the ball and displayed the strength of a prop to power his way over the line.
Griffin added the goal, with Wakefield then adding a further try after the final hooter.
Greg Johnson took advantage of a gaping hole in Hull's defence and seared through it, before handing off to Kyle Amor to score.
