Source: www.rabbitohs.com.auThe South Sydney Rabbitohs have appointed David Kidwell as Toyota Cup Coach of the South Sydney Rabbitohs for the 2010 season.
Kidwell has had a celebrated career in the NRL as a player, and is now looking to make the step into the coaching ranks having retired from professional Rugby League.
Kidwell will take over the coaching position from Daniel Irvine who did a great job coaching the side to the 2009 Toyota Cup Finals. Irvine moves on from the position due to other work commitments.
Kidwell finished his contract with the Rabbitohs this season and is looking forward to starting the next phase of his career in Rugby League.
"I'm really looking forward to working with the young players we have at the Rabbitohs and helping them to develop into future NRL stars for the Club," Kidwell said.
"It's important to prepare these players for the step up into the NRL as best we can and I'm looking forward to that challenge.
"This is a part time role which suits my circumstances perfectly, enabling me to conduct my personal training business in the morning and during the day, then coach the team at night.
"I'm glad that I can stay involved with South Sydney and Rugby League, and put something back into the game now that my playing days are behind me."
South Sydney CEO Shane Richardson is pleased that the Rabbitohs are able to keep David at the Club in a new role.
"David came to this Club in 2007 to help turn the on-field fortunes of this Club around," Mr Richardson said.
"He was captain of the Club alongside Roy Asotasi, has played many Tests for New Zealand, has played in Grand Finals, and was recognised as a leader amongst the playing group here at the Rabbitohs, particularly amongst the younger players.
"David indicated to us that he wanted to get into coaching and with Daniel Irvine moving on we saw an opportunity to keep him connected with the Club, offering his vast experience as a player to our young athletes as well as giving him a start to his coaching career.
"We're pleased David remains on board with the Club and hopefully he can guide the under 20s side to the playoffs for the second year running."

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have one of the richest histories in Rugby League. Established in 1908, the South Sydney Club has won 20 first grade premierships and provided 62 internationals for the Australian side, and have famously worn their cardinal red and myrtle green colours since inception. The rebirth of the Rabbitohs began on 7 June, 2006 through a new partnership between Russell Crowe, Peter Holmes a Court and the then 8000 Members of the Club. The Rabbitohs made the semi-finals for the first time in 18 years in 2007, and have strengthened their Ticketed Membership to over 8,500 with over 15,000 Total Members in 2009.

Source: www.souths.com.auThe Real Insurance Rabbitohs have announced the signing of Daniel Irvine from the Bulldogs today on a two-year contract.
Irvine, 24, made his NRL debut with the Parramatta Eels in 2000 as an 18-year-old, before joining the Bulldogs in 2005. He has played 41 NRL games, is a strong defender, and has an excellent work ethic.
Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson says Irvine will push for first grade selection in 2007.
"We have built a big, aggressive forward pack for 2007 with the likes of David Kidwell, Dean Widders, David Fa'alogo, Scott Geddes, Joe Galuvao and Peter Cusack; and Daniel's skills in the hooking role will complement these players with his strengths in defence and his speed off the mark," Mr Richardson said.
Irvine is keen to get started at his new Club.
"I'm very excited about playing with the Rabbitohs next year as I feel the signings the Club has made are very promising," Irvine said.
"The Club has a proud tradition and I'm looking forward to playing in the red and green jersey."News sent by:
