AS often seems the case, the people who are bagging rugby league's return to Wembley Stadium at the weekend seem to largely be those who weren't there.
OK, there were 40,000 empty seats. OK, the Welsh were soundly beaten. But the atmosphere was fantastic, the 42,000 crowd made as much noise as the 80,000 at the NRL grand final and there were times when I could have sworn I saw Brad Clyde, Shaun Edwards and the rest running around.
It had that venerable, respectful feel to it.
We have not been to Wembley as an international sport since 1997. On one hand you could expect people to show up because it's been a long time between drinks. But getting fans to save money and bring the family down from the north is not something that happens overnight.
The question is: how do you continue to make the Wembley international an event without people getting a little bored of it, as seems to have happened with Millennium Magic?
That's why Nigel Wood and Richard Lewis get paid the big bucks, I guess. But the number of Kiwis and Aussies living locally makes London far more sustainable that Cardiff, I would have thought. Surely, meanwhile, with the collapse of Crusaders, the abandonment of Millennium Magic for 2012 must be a mere formality.
Imagine, for instance, Australia v England and New Zealand v Pacific All Stars at Wembley! What sort of crowd would that get? The Kiwis would show up and so would just about every Polynesian in the south of England!
----------
AT Wembley, I spoke to Wales forward Jordan James who said he was sorry for his - completely legitimate - tackle on Sam McKendry, who is out of the Four Nations with a broken jaw.
Keiran Foran backed up James, saying there was nothing illegal in the tackle. And they were both right - because it was Craig Kopczak's shoulder charge which broke McKendry's jaw! Copczak was charged. As I always say, no matter how long you've done this job, strange and unexpected situations like this constantly arise.
----------
WHILE on New Zealand halfback Foran, he says he will be at Manly next year regardless of what happens with Des Hasler.
Foran was already pencilled in to do a media conference at the Crowne Plaza here in Leeds when Hasler was stood down about two hours before the Sea Eagles star was to front the cameras. To Kieran's credit - and he's an impressive bloke, readers - he fronted up to all questions.
As I write this, I've just come back from the hotel.
"I haven't heard too much about it to be honest with you," Foran said at the "all-in" media opportunity. "Over here, you miss out on most of the stuff that's going on back there. I don't know too much about it.
"I do have a (get-out) clause but I'm at Manly next year and I'll be there next year.
"For sure, certainly."
Foran also had a brief chat to newspaper reporters afterwards, quotes from which you'll see in the next 24 hours.

FEEDBACK time and Stephen, the Brits don't have any choice but to value international football - without it they'd get next-to-no national publicity or sponsorship. Ken, a lot of people agree with you but I would like to see the Pacific Allstars have a run. They could be the permanent fourth team in the Four Nations in future and they players would have a reason to commit to their countries. Tony Williams and Akuila Uate WOULD have the option of playing for the Pacific Allstars. Beez, I think you have answered a question from last week's column - I was told England had been invited to play "at a certain date at a certain non-Auckland venue". Does the Wellington Centenary fall during October or November?

Salford City Reds have signed Australian utility back Joel Moon and Crusaders RL prop forward Jordan James on two-year deals.
Twenty-three-year-old Moon, who will link up with the Reds in pre-season from New Zealand Warriors, is seen as a replacement for Warrington Wolves-bound Stefan Ratchford, although he can also play centre, second row and loose forward.
James, 31, a Wales international, is the latest Crusaders player to secure his future away from the Wrexham club, who play their final Engage Super League game at Wigan Warriors tomorrow.
He played for Wigan and Widnes before heading to south Wales to link up with Crusaders in their inaugural Super League campaign.
