'Rocket' Rod Jensen joins the Giants
Tue May 29, 2007

Huddersfield Giants have strengthened their squad with the addition, on a two and a half year deal of Queensland Cowboys utility star "Rocket" Rod Jensen. The 28-year-old has been released by the Cowboys to fulfill a lifetime desire to play in the UK and is keen to get his Giants career up and running.

Jenson, who has over 100 NRL games under his belt and 36 tries played his farewell game for the Cowboys at the weekend and will be arriving in the UK this week. The Giants were able to make the move to strengthen with the arrival of John Skandalis' Greek passport which takes him off the clubs overseas quota leaving Jenson to occupy the permitted third slot alongside Brad Drew and Jamahl Lolesi.

Rod Jensen said:

"I have always followed the Super League and the Giants in particular as I know that they have kept in close contact with my career over a number of years. I am looking forward to the challenge and again playing alongside my former teammates Brad Drew & Jamahl Lolesi. I hope I can add something to the already impressive line-up."

Head Coach Jon Sharp said:

"Rod is a highly experienced utility player who can cover a number of positions. He began his career on the wing where he first came to our attention and since then he has enjoyed spells in the centre and back row. He will be a great addition to our squad with his versatility giving us plenty of options."

Managing Director Richard Thewlis commented:

"The rocket will be a real fans favourite at the Galpharm with his all action style of play. We have been monitoring him for a considerable period of time and we're delighted when we got the nod that he felt now was about the right time to fulfill his UK ambitions. To be able to attract a current NRL star who played in the 2005 Grand Final and still has his best years ahead of him says much for the standing and perception of our club down under."

Rod Jensen moves to Huddersfield
Thu May 24, 2007
Source: www.cowboys.com.au

Today the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys announced that Rod Jensen had been granted a release and will move to the Huddersfield Giants in the United Kingdom Super League.

Jensen approached the club a short time ago with regard to future options of playing in the English Super League given qualification status required to attain places in that competition. After much deliberation the club has reluctantly agreed to support his request for a release.

Toyota Cowboys CEO Peter Parr says it was not an easy decision given Rods great service to the Cowboys' both on and off the field. "Rod is a highly regarded member of the club and this community so the decision was a very difficult and contentious one. In the same breath the opportunity for Rod to pursue a future in England was right and we did not want to rob him of that request.

"Rod has been a great player at the club and we sincerely thank him for all of his efforts while he has been here and wish he and his partner Belinda all the best in the future."
