In an exciting addition to Friday nights test match, ten of the victorious 1998 Kiwis team will be on hand to show their support to this year's challengers.
Matthew Ridge, captain of the team which won the Anzac test that year, will join team mates Sean Hoppe, Richie Barnett, Stacey Jones, Quentin Pongia, Jarrod McCracken, Logan Swann and Joe Vagana on field in a guard of honour for the Kiwis when they take run out for this, the second only Anzac test to be held on NZ soil. 2012 Kiwis management team members Ruben Wiki and Tony Iro were also part of the winning team while current coach Stephen Kearney missed the game due to suspension.
In 1998 the Kangaroos fielded their first unified team in years with the Super League war finally at an end. Bob Fulton was coach, Laurie Daley the captain and Allan Langer was selected ahead of Andrew Johns. They were expected to win easily as the Kiwis camp was under significant pressure at the time.
After the Kiwis team was named coach Endacott lost Stephen Kearney to suspension, Gene Ngamu, Syd Eru & Tony Puletua through injury and Henry Paul, the hooker was only able to join the camp two days before kickoff. Despite the disruptions, the suspension to Stephen Kearney was widely decried at the time, the only new cap in the team was Nigel Vagana, coming off the bench.
The Paul brothers became the 29th set of brothers to represent NZ that day and the 15th pair to play a test together. They were joined in the team by the Iro brothers and the Vagana cousins, a real family affair. This was also the year the traditional V returned to the Kiwis jersey.
They were 12-2 down, had lost Johnny Lomax two minutes into the game and Richie Barnett was playing with a broken hand but in what coach Endacott described at the time as a 'superb effort' they fought their way back to win 22-16 in front of 25,620 screaming fans.
NZRL CEO Jim Doyle said "Rugby League has a proud history in NZ and the 1998 team are an integral part of that. Their win was an inspiration to up and coming Kiwis. I know our current players appreciate their support, and I'm sure the crowd will give them the rousing reception they deserve when they take the field."
Good seats are still available for tomorrow nights game through Ticketek (0800 TICKETEK, www.ticketek.co.nz and all agencies) and through selected Mad Butcher stores.

Source: www.warriors.co.nzVodafone Warriors winger Manu Vatuvei's strike rate of close to a try a game over the last three seasons has him only eight tries short of equalling the legendary Stacey Jones' club try-scoring record of 77.
Heading into tonight's 19th-round encounter against Melbourne at Mount Smart Stadium, the 24-year-old has 69 tries in 104 NRL appearances while halfback Jones racked up his count in 261 games.
Injury has restricted Vatuvei to 10 games this season and he was on the field for only about half a game on three of those occasions. However, he has still scored 11 tries, good enough to place him eighth on the NRL's try-scoring chart. It means he has now collected 40 tries from his last 46 first-grade matches stretching back to the start of the 2008 season.
Despite his abbreviated season, Vatuvei also ranks eighth for most line breaks this season with 11.
Tomorrow night he will be reunited with his regular left centre partner Jerome Ropati as the Vodafone Warriors welcome back four key players from their injured list in fullback Lance Hohaia, wing Kevin Locke, centre Brent Tate and halfback Brett Seymour.
In building their recent run of four wins ? the club's first four-win sequence since late 2008 - the Vodafone Warriors have fielded a line-up dominated by home-grown talent, players who have come through the club's Allied Work Force development system and the NYC or have broken into the NRL after being signed by the Vodafone Warriors (like Christchurch-born Lewis Brown and Ukuma Ta'ai).
Of the line-up that beat second-placed Penrith last Sunday, 11 players fitted the formula - Ropati at fullback, wingers Vatuvei and Bill Tupou, centre Brown, halfback Isaac John, prop Russell Packer, hooker Aaron Heremaia, second rowers Simon Mannering and Sione Lousi plus interchange forwards Ben Matulino and Ta'ai. Prop Jesse Royal also came through the New Zealand system before making his NRL debut with Newcastle. While Tupou and John will both be missing from the side tonight, the count of home-made players in the 18-man squad to face Melbourne stands at 11 with Hohaia and Locke back in the frame (12 counting Royal).
After missing the wins over Parramatta and Penrith with a groin complaint, Hohaia slots back into his regular spot at fullback with Ropati reverting to the centres and his stand-in Brown resuming his starting back rower's role.
Tate, who has missed the last four matches with a broken jaw, is back in the centres for Joel Moon. He pairs up again with Locke, sidelined for the wins over the Eels and the Panthers after colliding with a goalpost while scoring the match-winning try against the Sydney Roosters in Christchurch on June 27.
Halfback Seymour has recovered from a leg fracture to make his fifth appearance for the club, joining James Maloney in the halves. Seymour missed seven games after breaking his thumb in the opening round of the season and has been out for another five matches since breaking his leg against Wests Tigers on May 28.
Also back in action this weekend is forward Jacob Lillyman, who's set to turn out for the Auckland Vulcans in the New South Wales Cup after being out with a foot injury since the April 25 loss to Melbourne.
