Record-breaking rugby league legends Ruben Wiki and Stacey Jones are back in the Kiwis.
They were today named in mentoring roles for the New Zealand Rugby League, starting with the Pirtek Kiwis for the Centenary Test against the Kangaroos at the Sydney Cricket Ground on May 9.
Kiwi coach Stephen Kearney, who played many of his 45 tests alongside the pair, was keen to have his former team-mates involved in support positions.
"I'm concentrating on the Vodafone Warriors right now but Steve asked me to help out in whatever way I can with the Kiwis and I'd love to do it," said Wiki (35), who played a world record 55 tests from 1994-2006.
"I was always so proud to play for my country, to pull on the black and white jersey. It's going to be another huge honour being involved with the team for such an important match in Sydney.
"I hope I can pass some things onto the boys and help to bring some pride back into the jersey."Jones shares the same sentiments as he prepares to return to the Kiwi environment after playing the last of his 46 tests in the 2006 Tri-Nations grand final in Sydney.
"I've got so many brilliant memories representing my country," he said.
"I've moved on from playing now but I'm really enjoying things I'm doing in rugby league. To be able to work with the Kiwis in this way will be brilliant.
"I was thrilled when Steve asked. If he thinks I can help I'm only too pleased to be involved."Wiki, who also finished his Kiwi career after the 2006 Tri-Nations decider, is in his 16th and last season in the NRL, his fourth with the Vodafone Warriors. He's planning to play out his career in the English Super League.
He has now played 294 NRL matches and is poised to become just the 10th player to reach the 300-game mark in the competition's 100-year-old history.
Jones had two years with Les Catalans Dragons in the English Super League after his 238-game career with the Vodafone Warriors. He had his swansong for the All Golds in last year's 100th anniversary match against the Northern Union (when Wiki captained the All Golds).
Now settled back in New Zealand, he has been doing media work as well as taking on a role as kicking coach with the Vodafone Warriors.
Wiki and Jones were both named in the Kiwi Team of the Century revealed at the New Zealand Rugby League's awards dinner late last year.
NZRL chairman Ray Haffenden said it was exciting to have the pair back in the Kiwi fold.
"We have spoken to Ruben abd Stacey about becoming the NZRL's first junior ambassadors to help our younger players coming through," he said.
"Ruben and Stacey mean so much to rugby league in this country and throughout the rugby league world.
"They've given so much enjoyment as players and Ruben hasn't finished yet.
"Anyone can understand why Stephen (Kearney) would want to call on them to help with preparation for the Centenary Test. They'll bring so much experience and knowledge to the camp.
"With this being the centenary of the first test between New Zealand and Australia in 1908, it's great to have two of the best players we've had back in the team."Wiki and Jones will join the 2008 Pirtek Kiwis in Sydney on May 5.

ISSUED ON BEHALF OF NEW ZEALAND RUGBY LEAGUE
Mon February 18, 2008
Source: www.warriors.co.nzVdafone Warriors great Stacey Jones is back with his old NRL club.
After playing a record 238 matches for the Vodafone Warriors, he has now officially rejoined his only NRL club as its kicking coach.
The 31-year-old halfback, who holds most of the Vodafone Warriors' individual records, retired from all football after his second season with Les Catalans Dragons in the English Super League before making his swansong appearance for the All Golds in their commemorative match against the Northern Union in Warrington last October.
"We're delighted to have Stacey back with us," said chief executive Wayne Scurrah.
"He means so much to the Vodafone Warriors and to our supporters. For us, it's important to have players of his standing involved in the club in some way once they finish playing. Stacey has so much to offer."Jones began working with the club's kickers recently before formalising his position today. He works with players from both the NRL and National Youth Cup (under 20) squads.
"It's great for me to be able to come back to the club and have a part-time role like this," said Jones.
"I want to stay involved in rugby league and this is one way I can do it. I'm enjoying working with the NRL players and also the young guys, trying to give them some help with their kicking games.
"Most of all I'm able to give something back to the club that did so much for me."Coach Ivan Cleary couldn't wait to have Jones in the role.
"Once Stacey finished playing and indicated he was on his way home, it made sense to have him working with us immediately," he said.
"As a player he was obviously one of the best the game has seen. Our kickers will gain a lot from what he has to offer and especially our halves.
"Apart from his kicking game, Stacey can help us in all sorts of other ways through his experience at all levels of the game."Vodafone Warriors NYC coach Tony Iro said Jones' involvement would help the club enormously.
"Developing quality players in the halves, is an area we rate as critical," he said.
"It has been an area that New Zealand has lacked depth in for a long time.
"But by having Stacey working with us, we are now in a great position to do something about growing our depth and giving young players quality coaching through one of the best."Jones' schedule comprises at least two separate sessions a week with kickers from the Vodafone Warriors' NRL and NYC squads.
