Source: www.bulldogs.com.auHalfback Brett Kimmorley has signed off on a stellar playing career by taking out the Bulldogs Player of the Year award at the Club's 2010 presentation night held tonight at Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf.
Kimmorley's win capped a big night of presentations, which included awards for the Clubman of the Year, Rookie of the Year, NSW Cup Player of the Year, Toyota Cup Player of the Year, and the Peter Warren Medal for outstanding service to the community.
The Bulldogs NSW Cup winning side was congratulated on its second Premiership in as many years, while long-serving and departing players were officially acknowledged for their service to the Club.
Being named the Bulldogs Player of the Year for 2010 is a fitting way for Kimmorley to finish his 16-year career in the National Rugby League, which has seen him represent Australia, NSW, win a Premiership and claim a Clive Churchill Medal.
The 34-year old halfback, who played his 307th and final NRL match in the Bulldogs final round win over Manly, will remain a part of the Bulldogs in 2011 when he starts his new role as an assistant coach.
Popular forward Michael Hodgson underlined the positive impact he has had since his arrival at the Bulldogs by being named the Clubman of the Year for 2010.
The Clubman of the Year title carries great prestige, as it covers all aspects of a player's involvement inside the Bulldogs Club throughout the year. Hodgson was awarded the honour in part for the enthusiasm and dedication that he exhibits at all times, from his physical preparation, his on field performances, his community engagements and his work with corporate and media partners.
Bulldogs captain Andrew Ryan was once again recognised for his outstanding contribution in the community, adding the 2010 Peter Warren Medal to the Ken Stephen Medal he claimed last week.
The Peter Warren Medal was named in honour of long-time sponsor and supporter of the Club Peter Warren, and it was presented to Andrew by Dr George Peponis on behalf of the Warren family. The award is in recognition of his countless hours of work for causes as diverse as Camp Quality, the Australian Disability Foundation, beyondblue, Ronald McDonald House, the Children's Hospital at Westmead's Bandaged Bear Cup, the NSW State Government's 'Tackling Violence' campaign, and the 'Andrew Ryan Captains Cup', a junior Rugby League competition held in both Sydney and his home town, Dubbo.
Part of the award saw Andrew presented with $5,000 to donate to the charity of his choosing.
Promising young forward Tim Browne capped a big first year at the Bulldogs by being named the 2010 Rookie of the Year. Browne played four NRL matches this season and was an integral part of the Bulldogs NSW Cup Premiership win.
Halfback Josh Reynolds was named the NSW Cup Player of the Year just three days after playing a starring role in the Bulldogs Grand Final victory. Reynolds - who set a new Club record of 38 points in a match against the Melbourne Storm in the final round of 2010 - scored two tries and kicked four goals for a personal haul of 16 points in the Dogs 24-12 win over Windsor in Sunday's decider at ANZ Stadium.
And hard working back rower Josh Jackson was rewarded yet again for his stellar season by taking out the Toyota Cup Player of the Year award. The award comes just a day after Jackson and team mate Aidan Sezer were named in the Junior Kangaroos side to play a two Test series against New Zealand later this month.

The Bulldogs have overcome the disgraceful non-sending off of Steve Matai and some contentious decisions to upset Manly 30-24 in their final match of the season.
Matai clocked Bulldogs hooker in an off the ball incident that was high, extremely late and with full intent.
Following the events of Penrith Captain Petero Civoniceva the week before the decision to leave Matai on the field was staggering and the officials responsible need to be held accountable for their indecisive action.
The NRL Match Review Committee saw differently to the match officials with Matai facing between 7-9 matches on the sidelines and effectively ruling him out of New Zealand's Four Nations campaign.
To quote the words of Phil Gould on Channel Nine yesterday, "I'm surprised he's still there," in reference to the Matai incident and Gould has been a noted campaigner against penalties given for high tackles, so for Gould to say he should have been dismissed is saying something.
The first half was tit for tat action with neither side able to break away from the other with the Bulldogs lead 18-16 at the break thanks to the boot of Bryson Goodwin.
Half time has often been the Bulldogs bugbear in recent seasons, but yesterday was different with two tries in the first seven minutes after the break.
Ben Barba scored a sensational 70m try leaving the Manly defence in their wake once he got an ounce of space and Barba did the rest, which his try in essence makes it a farce as to why he spent four weeks in NSW Cup this season and lots of time sitting on the interchange bench when the Bulldogs lacked the spark and energy Barba provides.
Five minutes after Barba's try the Bulldogs were in again when a great cut out pass from Andrew Ryan put Goodwin away down the flank and Josh Morris backed up on the inside to score.
The Bulldogs were up 28-16 and the Ennis incident happened with Ennis being forced off the field due to the ferocity of the incident.
Manly gained momentum with Matai being allowed to stay on the field and scored moments after through Matai of all people.
When Lyon scored in the 64th minute the Sea Eagles were back to within four points and had all the momentum, luck and 50-50 decisions go their way, but couldn't put the Bulldogs away when it mattered.
The Bulldogs held on for victory despite doing all they could in the final moments to give Manly as much possession as possible through elementary handling errors.
Luke Patten and Brett Kimmorley end their NRL careers on a fitting note with victory in their last appearances. Both players have chosen the right time to end their careers as this was the season that their careers showed rapid signs of decline.
Kimmorley resisted offers from rival NRL clubs to retire to a career in the media and coaching. Kimmorley competed as strong as ever this season, but the body wasn't working as effectively as his mind and after 307 NRL matches, 10 Origins and 20 Tests he has had an outstanding career. The fact at least three NRL clubs wanted him for next season is a testament to the value he is still placed in.
Patten exercised an option in his contract to play out his career in England despite having one-year remaining at the Bulldogs. Patten was able to secure himself a lucrative deal at Salford City and leaves the Bulldogs with only Hazem El Masri, Steve Mortimer, Terry Lamb, Steve Folkes, Chris Anderson and Eddie Burns appearing in more first grade matches over their 76 season history.
Patten showed outstanding courage to make it back onto the field after a crippling back injury in 2008 and was on standby to play for NSW last year. This season Patten showed the effects of a career that spanned to over 270 first grade games and has chosen the right time to exit from the NRL and enjoy a career in the UK.
On the same day that Kimmorley and Patten bowed out another player was resurrecting his career. Corey Payne played 88 NRL games for the Dragons and Wests Tigers from 2005-09 and returned to the Bulldogs this year only to be injured in the opening trial match. Payne hailed from Chester Hill - the same junior club as Bulldogs legends Terry Lamb and Geoff Robinson progressed to the Bulldogs under-age teams before being snapped up by the Dragons when largely unwanted by the Bulldogs.
Payne was delighted when given an opportunity by Kevin Moore to continue his career at the Bulldogs and came to a shuddering halt late in February. Rather than throw in the towel Payne worked extremely hard to come back from shoulder reconstruction and put himself in contention for a return to the NRL side before the season ended.
Payne was Man of the Match in the Bulldogs NSW Cup victory against Newtown the week before that sealed them the minor premiership and Payne was rewarded for his efforts and hard work on the training paddock with NRL selection for the last match of the season. Payne was outstanding for the Bulldogs yesterday in only his 3rd overall match in 2010 including trials and will be a valuable player for them in 2011 if he gets a touch of luck.
The season is now over for the Bulldogs and one where they should have built on a fantastic 2009 went completely pear shaped and was effectively over after just 40 minutes against the Knights in the opening round. The Bulldogs came into that match flat and lethargic with their season barely getting any momentum except when Barba engineered three successive victories against Canberra, Cronulla and Melbourne.
Everything fell the Bulldogs way in 2009 except for a video decision that bordered beyond horrendous, but this year teams applied pressure to the Bulldogs and they struggled to match the intensity of their opponents.
The Bulldogs will need to work extremely hard on their mental and physical fitness in the off-season and concentrate on winning the ruck area to open up the field for players such as Ennis, Barba, Ben Roberts and new signing Kris Keating that need space to show their wares and hit Morris into more gaps where he is at his best.
The Bulldogs appeared to be behind the pace in terms of fitness and ruck speed this year and lacked the mental application of their opponents. Moore has the challenge ahead of him to rectify that and develop more variations into the Bulldogs attacking and defensive structures.
Manly due to the loss by the Rabbitohs in the last NRL game of the season will live to fight another day and they will take on the Dragons in the opening week of the finals where they have to win at all costs.
The Sea Eagles have been hit hard with injuries and suspensions at the wrong end of the season, but they will be confident they are playing the Dragons in the Finals - a side that has a notoriously poor record under pressure.
