Source: www.rabbitohs.com.auThe South Sydney Rabbitohs have announced that the Club will have five captains throughout the 2012 season.
Michael Crocker, Roy Asotasi, Sam Burgess, Matt King and John Sutton will lead the Club this year as part of a leadership group which is charged with captaining the side week-in and week-out.
The announcement was made in the lead up to kick off at tonight's Return to Redfern international trial match between the Rabbitohs and the Warrington Wolves.
Head Coach Michael Maguire considered the leadership options amongst the playing group and consulted with the Rabbitohs' players on who should lead the Club in 2012.
The leadership group captaincy model was agreed upon by the players and staff of the Rabbitohs, with these five players being chosen as captains for 2012.
"One of these players will be appointed each game to toss the coin and speak with the referees, but on every other aspect of the team we operate as an entire group with these five players making up our captaincy," Coach Maguire said.
"It's a strong leadership model that everyone has bought into at the Club. I've experienced it at Wigan, and I've seen it work successfully at other Clubs and in other sports as well.
"We're confident that these five players will provide the leadership we need to operate as a team, and to continue our efforts to improve in everything we do."

Matt King insists there will be no danger of complacency when Warrington Wolves seek to complete a first Super League double over St Helens.
The table-topping Wolves broke their hoodoo against their arch rivals in the third match of the season and are firm favourites to follow up that historic first away win of the summer era.
King admits confidence in the Warrington camp is high after winning 13 of their opening 18 fixtures but says lessons were learned from their previous home game when the leaders suffered a shock home defeat by lowly Salford.
"You'd have to take some confidence out of what we've done in the first half of the year," he said.
"But there's a difference between being confident and being cocky and I think we've found that difference.
"We've got a pretty good boss who's keeping our feet on the ground; we're not getting ahead of ourselves.
"To get that monkey off our back was good. I didn't actually play in that game - I was out with my knee - so I still haven't beaten Saints. It would be nice to do the double and put that terrible run to bed once and for all."
King is now in his fourth season in Super League after making the move from Melbourne Storm and is currently weighing up whether to take up the option of a contract extension or accept one of two offers from NRL clubs.
The 30-year-old became a father for the first time a fortnight ago and admits his family will have a big bearing on his decision, but he is tempted to stay with Super League's boom club.
"Australia will always be home but we're very comfortable here," he said. "We've started a family here and Kirsten has a job she can go back to whenever she wants.
"To think that we can bring Charlie up closer to our families is nice but our families are always going to be there and I think if I do decide to stay, everyone will be patient and just wait for us to come home in a couple of years if it pans out that way.
"It's coming to that point where I need to make a decision pretty soon. Hopefully in the next two to three weeks, everything should be sorted, one way or the other."
Warrington coach Tony Smith says he will need a decision soon as he juggles with the club's overseas quota restrictions but will not put pressure on King to stay.
"He knows we need an answer soon if we are going to have to look for a replacement and the longer he waits on that the harder it makes it for us to replace him," he said.
"We'd love to have him stay - he plays a big part for us on and off the field - but if he decides to go back to Australia I'll thank him for all he's done for us and support him."
In tonight's other games, Leeds Rhinos aim to keep the pressure on fourth-placed Saints when they host Bradford Bulls, and Crusaders RL look to complete a hat-trick of wins over Salford City Reds.
