Source: www.crusadersrfl.comCeltic Crusaders' Welsh international Mark Lennon has expressed his disappointment at not being able to take part in both of the Crusaders' clashes against Hull Kingston Rovers in the next three weeks.
The Welsh side travel to Craven Park for an engage Super League match this Sunday (kick-off 3pm) before repeat the process in the Carnegie Challenge Cup in three weeks time.
Lennon, a former Hull KR player, was looking forward to taking part in both but has been ruled out thanks to a fractured thumb that he is going to have an operation on tomorrow (Friday).
The injury occurred in last weekend's match against St Helens which the Crusaders lost 4-0. Saints in fact scored their only try when the Crusaders were down to 12 men while Lennon was off the field having treatment for the injury that was thought at the time to be a dislocated thumb.
"I'm gutted," said Lennon, a proud Welsh international whose mother originates from Blackwood.
"When the fixtures were announced, the first ones I looked for were the trips to my former clubs, Hull Kingston Rovers and Castleford Tigers. I should make the Castleford trip as that's not until the last day of the season but to miss not one but two trips to Hull Kingston Rovers, where I enjoyed many happy times, is really gutting. I wish the boys all the best and I hope to be back in action as soon as possible."
Fellow former Hull KR winger and Welsh international Luke Dyer will be fit for the trip. Dyer was left out of the St Helens game due to a thigh injury but has now recovered and is ready to go.
It is not yet known whether David Tangata-Toa, another former Hull KR player will be in the first team squad for Sunday or for the reserve game against Rovers' second string on Saturday. Both squads will be announced tomorrow (Friday).
Hull Kingston Rovers' head coach Justin Morgan is looking forward to the both the Super League and Challenge Cup clashes with the Crusaders.
"They're going to be tough," said the former Welsh international and current assistant to John Dixon at international level.
"I said at start of year that I admire John as coach and they've recruited well. We were new few years ago so we know that the pace of game gets under your skin for the first month. But that first month has now gone for them. They've got great individual players and they're going to be tough to break down. They would have got a lot of confidence after the Saints game. They'll be desperate for a win and they'll want to do it at our place on Sunday."

Source: www.hullkr.co.ukFormer Cronulla Shark utility back, Mark Lennon is excited with the opportunity that now faces him at Hull Kingston Rovers, having signed till the end of the season.
The 27-year-old Australian is a welcomed addition to the squad, after losing Jon Steel for the rest of the season, with him being ruled out after breaking his tibia and fibula last week against the Bradford Bulls.
Lennon has vast rugby league experience at Premiere League level, for both the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and Cronella Sharks back home.
His playing career includes international duties for Wales due to his mother's heritage, along with playing at Castleford Tigers during their Super League days before returning home.
Hull Kingston Rovers Head Coach Justin Morgan said:
"It's a given fact that due to a number of injuries we have sustained so far this season, Mark is an important addition to the team, it's also of added benefit that he's an accomplished goal kicker. Mark's a very versatile player and can cover a number of positions, he adds a new dimension to the backs and more importantly he his available to play this weekend."Meanwhile, Morgan has confirmed his 20-man squad with Lennon selected for the forthcoming home fixture v's Salford City Reds in round 11 of Super League XII.
