Source: www.leedsrugby.comNew Leeds Rhinos signing Kylie Leuluai can not wait to get his Rhinos career started after arriving at Headingley Carnegie yesterday to start his three year contract with the club.
Leuluai, 28, had to put back his arrival to the UK because of the birth of his first son, Marley, four weeks ago, however the whole family jetted in yesterday and Leuluai is eagerly anticipating getting his pre-season started. The prop, who earned the nickname of "The Hulk" in Australia because of his strength will make his first appearance for Leeds in the Tetley's Festive Challenge game against Wakefield at Headingley Carnegie on Boxing Day, kick off 11.30am.
"I have been really excited about joining the Rhinos since I signed for the club. I used to play with Scott Donald at Manly and I was texting him three or four times a week since I signed back in August to find out how the lads are getting on. Whenever possible I have been watching the games on the TV and the Rhinos have definitely become my team.
"Hopefully having done a bit of home work before I came over it will make it easier to settle in. I did not come here for a holiday and I am looking forward to working hard in pre-season and getting my first game under my belt on Boxing Day.
"I am good friends with Dave Solomona and Monty Betham and I was looking forward to coming up against them in that game but unfortunately they have left Wakefield now. I spoke to Dave when I was deciding which club to join and he spoke very highly of the Rhinos and the City of Leeds and said it was a great place to live," added Leuluai.
As well as winger Scott Donald, Leulaui will have another couple of familiar faces in the Rhinos dressing room when he starts pre-season. The giant prop was in the same New Zealand Maoris squad as Clinton Toopi in the World Cup in 2000 and played for New Zealand U19's with Ali Lauitiiti. Remarkably all three come from the same junior club back in New Zealand, Papatoetoe Panthers and Leuluai is looking forward to teaming up with his old friends again.
"Clinton and Ali are both amazing players and I am looking forward to be being on the same side as them. But having watched the Rhinos they are just two of many great players at the club. I know I will have to work hard to earn my place in the squad and prove to people why I have been brought in. That start's on Boxing Day and I can't wait."News sent by:
