Source: www.giantsrl.comHuddersfield Giants 27 year old Kiwi international Jamahl Lolesi has signed a new two year deal tying him to the Galpharm until the end of the 2011 season. The utility player has featured in the back row and the centre this year and is seen as another important piece of the squad going forward.
Head Coach Nathan Brown was pleased with the news that Lolesi has signed the two-year deal:
"This new deal is a reward for the work Jammer has put in since I've been here. We had an open mind about what would happen with him this season. At the start of the year, we asked to see some improvement in him and, to his credit, he's worked hard to do just that, which is pleasing. There's no doubt he brings a lot to the table, both on and off the field, and I know that with the improvements he's been making he can bring even more to the side in the future."
Lolesi was delighted his future is at the Giants:
"Yeah its really good news that we've sorted a deal out. With Nathan Brown coming in as Head Coach it made the decision a lot easier. I've really enjoyed my three years at the club and we've come a long way in that time and we've worked hard to get where we are.
"The club are on the brink of some good things and I want to be a part of it. I've achieved what I've wanted to achieve in Australia and the big challenge now is to achieve something here in Super League or the Challenge Cup. I don't want to go home wondering."

Source: www.giantsrl.comHuddersfield Giants first team stars Jamahl Lolesi and Kevin Brown have leant their support to the NHS Stop Smoking Day today. Almost three-quarters of smokers would like to quit and No Smoking Day is encouraging them to take the first step today by seeking advice from their NHS Stop Smoking Service, GP or pharmacist.
New research released to mark No Smoking Day (11 March) shows over one in three (38%) smokers in Yorkshire and the Humber are thinking about or planning to cut down or quit as a direct result of the economic downturn.
The poll shows that more than one in three (36%) of the nine million smokers in Great Britain are thinking about or planning to cut down or quit. No Smoking Day President and Dragons' Den star, Duncan Bannatyne, commented on the findings: "Everybody is feeling the pinch during the current recession.
"For smokers, who can spend over 2000 a year on cigarettes, it's particularly tough, so for those who are ready to quit there has never been a better time."
Almost one in 10 (9%) of smokers polled from Yorkshire and the Humber will be making a quit attempt today, No Smoking Day. The report also found:
? Smokers in the East Midlands (48%) are most likely to quit because of the recession
? Women are more likely to cut down or think about giving up (40% compared to 32% of male smokers)
"Stopping smoking is the single most important thing you can do to improve your health and the health of those around you, and it has huge and immediate benefits to smokers of all ages. Ex-smokers live longer and report better health than those who keep smoking, no matter what age they stop" said Specialist Advisor Joy Thomas
And she added:" Smokers are being hit in their pocket as the credit crunch bites. People who have quit with us are saving money to spend on other things."
Dan Tickle, Chief Executive of the No Smoking Day charity said:
"Giving up cigarettes will boost your bank balance - but the health benefits are even greater, including easier breathing, improved fitness and healthier hair, nails and skin. It's a fact that quitters also notice they have more energy after only a matter of days.
"By choosing No Smoking Day to quit, smokers will be joining a million others taking the first step to a healthier ? and wealthier life. And you don't have to quit alone. You're four times more likely to succeed if you use a free NHS Stop Smoking Service."
There are a number of events taking place across Yorkshire and the Humber to mark No Smoking Day. Whether people want to stop smoking for health or financial reasons - or both ? they will find help at the Huddersfield Pack Horse Centre 10 am to 3pm on Wednesday, National No Smoking Day.
They will be able to pick up free, confidential, expert advice from the Advisors, take a free carbon monoxide test and find out about the therapies available to help them quit, and stay quit.
The Kirklees Stop Smoking Service offers free, confidential, expert advice from dedicated NHS professionals. There is a choice of group or individual appointments, at a variety of times and venues in Kirklees.
It offers help in obtaining Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), Zyban or Champix on prescription, advice on how to stay stopped and continued support from specialist staff. The specialist service also assists pregnant women who smoke to stop with help and support from specialist midwives. Specialist advisors are also available to come out to workplaces to help and support employees to quit smoking.
