Lovegrove extends stay with Hull KR
Wed October 10, 2007
Source: http://www.hullkr.co.uk

Hull Kingston Rovers can confirm that centre/second rower Rhys Lovegrove will be with the club until the end of 2009, after signing a contract on a two year deal this week.

The powerful centre/second rower who joined the Robins part way through the season from NRL side St. George Illawarra, has been a great addition to the squad and has been extremely influential in key games this season, - in particular his involvement in the last derby of the season against local rivals Hull FC scoring two fantastic tries.

After scoring five tries in only eight appearances for the Robins his speed and sheer strength has been a welcomed addition to Morgan's men this season.

Head Coach Justin Morgan commented: "Rhys is a young and talented player with huge amounts of potential, he's come over here and demonstrated what he's capable of, I've been very pleased with his progress since joining us and look forward to working with him over the next couple of years."

Lovegrove said: "I've totally welcomed the opportunity to play Super League this year, I'm thoroughly enjoying my footy and love being over here. I'm only 20 years old and I know that this is only the beginning for me. I have been given this fantastic opportunity which I intend to make the most of."

Hull KR sign Lovegrove from Dragons

Former Cronulla Sharks junior, 20 year old Rhys Lovegrove joins the Robins until the end of the season from NRL club St George Illawara, Australia.

The centre/second rower will be joining the club early next week and is extremely excited about the challenges that will face him in the engage Super League competition.

A non quota player due to his British passport, Rhys has played in the Australian schools competition and is a great signing at this time in the season for the Robins.

Having played rugby league since the tender age of 7yrs old, Lovegrove is known in Australia for being a dependable and quick thinking centre. He is also an accomplished second row player who has a strong offloading game and is dangerous when on the attack.

Hull Kingston Rovers' Head Coach Justin Morgan commented: "Rhys is a good player and his ability to play both second row and centre will give me more options regarding team selection. Hopefully he will be arriving early next week and I'm sure he will be looking forward to getting stuck into training and meeting all the boys."

Lovegrove will be a welcomed addition to the newly promoted Super League side and, eager to join Morgan's men, said: "I'm really looking forward to coming to the UK. I love my footy, Hull Kingston Rovers is well known back home and I can't wait to play at Craven Park."
