MacDougall remains with Knights for 2011 season
Sat October 2, 2010
Source: www.newcastleknights.com.au

Newcastle Knights dual premiership winner Adam MacDougall has confirmed he will continue his playing career with the Knights by signing a new contract for the 2011 season.

MacDougall, 35, has played 186 first grade games for the Knights, Roosters and Rabbitohs during his 16 year career which has included 11 matches for NSW and five tests for Australia.

"I'm very excited about re-signing with the club for another year," MacDougall said.

"I'm looking forward to playing in 2011 in what shapes as an exciting year for the club with the re-opening of the new grandstand and the acquisition of several key players.

"With the team that we'll be fielding, I am very confident that we'll be playing finals football at the end of 2011.

"Obviously the contract has taken a while to finalise, however I've always been comfortable with the process and just wanted to ensure that we did it right."

A crowd favourite, MacDougall works closely with the Knights Corporate and Community departments, this year becoming an ambassador for the Ronald McDonald House in Newcastle.

The Harbord Diggers junior will continue to develop his partnership with Fijian Flyer Akuila Uate by sharing his knowledge and vast experience as the eldest player the competition with the exciting young try scoring machine.

2010 DISORD 32: NSW Selector's should follow Daley's lead, Rugby League in Israel & MacDougall's record
Wed August 4, 2010
by Steve Mascord
THE other NSW selectors should follow Laurie Daley's lead and stand down.

Daley did the right thing on Monday night by announcing he would not be continuing in the Blues' selection room after five consecutive Origin series defeats to Queensland.

Maybe Loz got some mail that Brian Canavan's report into the NSW program would recommend the selectors get the heave-ho anyway.

But surely the positions of Bob Fulton, Bob McCarthy and Geoff Gerard are close to be untenable. So many players, at least one coach and even members of staff and management have all been sacked during a dismal period for NSW but these three guys remain.

----------

THERE is a big rugby league story brewing in the Middle East.

A group representing Israel says it wants to start rugby league there but has been completely underwhelmed by the help so far on offer from the European and international authorities.

The organiser of this group, Lee Mullen, has circulated correspondence with the RLEF - which he says shows political bias - to dozens of media outlets all over the world.

Since we have not yet had the opportunity get the RLEF's side of the story, we won't be repeating the allegations here. But remember where you read it first.

----------

I FIND the whole Adam MacDougall-Akuila Uate issue quite amusing.

Sitting on the sideline in the first half, I had no idea 'Mad Dog' had appeared angry when Aku swooped.

So when I asked MacDougall on Triple M at fulltime about the scramble for the ball, I really wasn't trying to fire up any controversy.

Here's what he said: "I needed two tries to break the club record - he apologised but I won't be passing the ball to him next time I'm in the clear."

I want to make it clear MacDougall was smiling when he said this - but he was definitely aware of the record, seconds after fulltime!

----------

REMEMBER how American rugby league was going to have a gala re-launch on July 4? Well, it's August 4. Just sayin'.....

----------

NOW to feedback.

Ferrett and Steve, you are both very perceptive. When I first started doing Discord it was the only opinion piece I was doing each week and it was very exciting and often got me fired up.

Now, without giving other websites a plug, it is one of at least three a week. If Tony Adams and I do a debate in Rugby League Week, it is one of four. If it is deadline week at Rugby League World, it's one of five.

To be honest, it's a struggle. It's my intention to pull the pin completely at the end of September but if Chris at rleague.com wants me to stop now, I will.

As you have probably gathered, I'm not paid much to write Discord but I would also be willing to do it for free for the remainder of the NRL season as a show of good faith.

Thanks to those of you who have read every week for the last 18 months or so.

Steve Mascord
