MacDougall rushed into Knights side, Buderus and Simpson return
Tue May 29, 2007
by Matthew O'Neill
Newcastle's latest signing Luke MacDougall has been immediately rushed into the Knights starting side for Saturday's important clash against the Sydney Roosters at Gosford's Blue Tongue Stadium.

MacDougall signed with the Knights yesterday and coach Brian Smith has had no hesitation rushing him into the starting side.

The Knights have been boosted with the returns of Internationals Danny Buderus and Steve Simpson with Riley Brown being dropped back to Premier League for Buderus and Clint Newton being granted an immediate release and Simpson comes into the second-row with Kade Snowden shifting up to prop filling the vacancy left by Newton.

Nathan Hinton is the new fullback in place of Steve Gordon who has been dropped to Premier League.

It's been a dramatic last couple of days for the Knights with rumours of problems between the players and coach Smith.

The Roosters have moved their home match from Aussie Stadium to Gosford's Blue Tongue Stadium. A sell out crowd is expected for the clash with plenty of Knights supporters based in and around the Central Coast and Newcastle not being overly far from Gosford. The Roosters will be buoyed by their dramatic victory against the Sharks last Saturday night and will be looking to put two wins on the trot and confine last position to the Bulldogs and Dragons.

Former St George Illawarra utility back, Luke MacDougall will join his older sibling at EnergyAustralia Stadium as soon as tomorrow, after agreeing to terms with the Newcastle Knights.

MacDougall was released from the Dragons today and will switch clubs mid-season in a deal that will see him wear the Knights strip until the end of the 2009 season.

"The club was initially interested in securing Luke's services for the current season but missed that opportunity last year," said Knights Operations Manager, Stephen Crowe.

"More recently the chance arose for Luke to join the club this year and agree to a further two seasons.

"He's keen to play alongside his brother and we think they bring the best out in each other.

"Given his age and his proven ability on the field we're hopeful the Knights can provide the environment for him to go to the next level."

"His try scoring record at Souths was quite outstanding and the pace and strength that he has will certainly be a worthwhile addition to our playing roster, Knights Coach Brian Smith said."

MacDougall's arrival in Newcastle coincides with the departure of Knights forward, Clint Newton, who has been granted an immediate release from the club.

"Clint is one of those players who is a born and bred Novocastrian, he's come through the juniors, played 100 first grade games for the club - something that only a small group of players have achieved and he should be very proud of that," said Mr Crowe.

"We're sorry that he's leaving the club but he goes with our very best wishes."
