Source: www.crusadersrfl.comCrusaders' Tony Martin is relishing the prospect of going up against his opposite number Michael Shenton at the Racecourse Ground tonight (KO 8PM).
It will be a case of experience vs youth when the two centres clash in Wrexham, with Crusaders looking to build on last week's victory over Salford.
Martin, 32, is one of the Crusaders most experienced players with a glittering 15-year Rugby League career under his belt, which includes scoring the winning try in an NRL Grand Final for Melbourne Storm
Shenton, 24, has enjoyed a rapid rise since making his Super League debut for Castleford Tigers back in 2004. The young centre is now approaching 100 club tries and has made eight appearances for England.
He is now looking to make an impact for his new club after joining Saints for the 2011 Engage Super League season.
And Martin is excited by the prospect of going against Shenton tomorrow night at the Racecourse Ground.
"Preparations for Saints have been going really well," Martin said.
"Things are a lot easier after a win so the boys have got a bit of confidence back and we're all very happy. We're all looking forward to the Saints and it should be a great game.
"I'm looking forward to coming up against Michael Shenton. Michael is a class player, he always has been and playing at Saints is only going to make him a better player. He is playing at a great side with some very experienced players. You always look forward to playing against the best players in the comp and Michael is no exception.
"He has great footwork, a lot of pace and he knows his way to the try line so we will have to keep a close eye on him at the Racecourse Ground. To have achieved what he has in such a short space of time is quite remarkable."
Crusaders earned their second win of the campaign last weekend against Salford City Reds. Super League's only Welsh side put in a gritty display to run out 16-10 victors and Martin says the win has done wonders for the squad's confidence.
Martin added: "The win against Salford was massive. When you start to lose a few games everyone feels a bit deflated and start to doubt themselves. It was important that we won against Salford and it has put a smile on everyone's face this week.
"Things are looking up for us. We got the win and it is nice to have the boys back from Australia. We've also got blokes coming back from injury and we have got a really strong squad coming together now.
"It is always good for every team to have competition for places because it means everyone has to play well every week to get in the side. Hopefully, with that comes extra consistency and we can start stringing some results together.
"We were very happy with how our defence went last week. It is something we've been doing a lot of work on in training to try and improve that aspect of our game. We need to continue to defend well on Friday because St Helens have always been a very attack-minded side so they are going to be very dangerous."
And following a hit and miss start to the campaign, Martin believes the Saints are now starting to hit top gear under new coach Royce Simmons.
Martin said: "Saints have hit form in the last few weeks. They are always the same, they tend to start a bit slowly but then they hit the ground running. In recent weeks they've played really well and Royce Simmons is a quality coach. They've got great players all over the park and if we are not on our game, they could get a bit of a cricket score going.
"We have to concentrate for the full 80 minutes and defend like we did last week. If we do that then the result will take care of itself."

Source: www.crusadersrfl.comCrusaders Tony Martin says he is relishing going head to head with opposite number Ryan Atkins when Warrington Wolves visit the Racecourse Ground on Sunday (kick-off 3pm).
The two centres playing alongside each other at Wakefield for the last season but any friendships will be put aside when Crusaders and the Wolves clash on the weekend.
Atkins, 24, has become a fan favourite at the Halliwell Jones stadium since his big money move from the Wildcats. The powerful centre ha scored nine tries for the Wolves this term and set up a further eight for his team-mates. He forms a deadly centre partnership with fellow England international Chris Bridge, who misses the trip to the Racecourse through injury.
And veteran Martin, 32, admits he cannot wait to lock horns with the England star at the Racecourse on Sunday.
"Ryan's unbelievable," said Martin. "He was a good player at Wakefield, a very strong runner of the ball and a good defender. But I think he's taken his game to another level at Warrington, he's introduced the pass into his game and he's a very skilful player. He's certainly one for the future for England; I dare say he will play quite a few internationals for many years to come if he stays injury free.
"It's also going to be a really good test for me this Sunday. Personally I'm really looking forward to it because he's in my line and it is always good to play the best. I'm good friends with Ryan and I can't wait to come up against him on Sunday.
"Warrington are a top team. They are a great side. They've got class players all over the field and internationals everywhere you look but it is going to be good for us in a way. We go back to being underdogs and people are probably not expecting a lot from us, I don't think people will be expecting us to win. We go into the game with no real pressure on us and we've just got to make sure we put in a quality performance and anything can happen."
Crusaders will head into Sunday's match very much the underdogs against second placed Warrington. The Wolves had been in impressive form until last Sunday's narrow 30-37 loss against Leeds Rhinos that leaves them four points behind Engage Super League leaders Wigan Warriors.
And Martin believes all the pressure will be on the Wolves when the two teams meet.
"I think we are probably more used to being the underdog with results over the past 18 months. We've probably started the majority of games as underdogs, more so than some of the players are used to so we're not sure if that makes us play better. Hopefully we can get used to being the favourites the team and we can get results.
"We will certainly be underdogs this weekend and hopefully we can go out there, cut down on the errors and put in a good performance. Warrington lost last week and all the pressure will be on their shoulders."
Crusaders will be looking to bounce back following last weekend's loss to Wakefield Wildcats. The disappointing result came on the back of famous wins over Bradford Bulls and Leeds Rhinos.
And Martin believes his Crusaders team mates are now over their disappointment and raring to go on Sunday.
He said: "Obviously the boys were a little bit down on Monday. It certainly wasn't the result we were after on Sunday and we looked a bit like we were off the pace. We didn't start the game well and it just went form bad to worse. The boys were obviously disappointed but they were very keen to get back on the training field and patch things up and put in a good performance this weekend.
"We had the two hour delay and obviously it's not normal. It was a little bit different for us and it obviously put our preparation out a bit but it is certainly not an excuse. At the end of the day Wakefield were on the bus for six hours and their preparation was more disrupted than ours. We are professional athletes and we are supposed to deal with things like that but we dealt with it really poorly and it showed in our performance.
"But we're over that now. We're fully focussed on the Warrington game and are looking forward to putting on a good show in front of our home fans on Sunday."
