Rhinos handed double boost
Wed February 28, 2007
Source: www.leedsrugby.com

Leeds Rhinos have been handed a double boost with the news that the injuries suffered by Great Britain internationals Ryan Bailey and Danny McGuire are not as bad as first feared.

Both players were forced off in the Rhinos defeat at Catalans Dragons on Saturday evening and have received treatment after returning to the UK. McGuire had a scan on a hand injury on Monday, the results of which have shown an undisplaced fracture to his little finger. The Rhinos medical team will continue to monitor the stand off this week but are confident that the injury should only rule him out for a week and possibly less depending on how treatment goes.

Prop forward Bailey suffered a chest injury that has resulted in bruising but the Rhinos are confident of having him back available for Sunday's game against Huddersfield Giants at Headingley Carnegie, kick off 3pm.

Commenting on the results Head Coach Tony Smith said, "Both players have responded well to treatment and the situation is a lot more positive than we first feared on Saturday evening. We have got a longer turn around this week which affords us the opportunity to give them more time. We don't have to name our 20 man squad until Thursday this week and we should have a much clearer picture by then."

Rhinos Head Physiotherapist Meirion Jones added, "Danny suffered a crack in a phalanx which was undisplaced, which means it requires no further action such as an operation to reset it for example. We will continue to monitor Danny to bring any swelling down but essentially it should not cause any long term problems."
