McManus re-signs with Knights
Thu February 7, 2008

The Newcastle Knights are proud to announce 2007 Rookie of the Year, James McManus has agreed to terms with the club until at least the end of the 2011 season.

Scotland born and Darwin-raised, the Palmerston Raiders junior played every match in his debut year, taking out top try scorer with 10 tries.

"I'm very pleased to have all contract negotiations over and done with and I'm just looking forward to the rest of the season now," said McManus.

"It's great to know I'll be staying at the Knights. I get along with everyone at the club and I love Newcastle.

"I've learnt a lot under Smithy and hopefully this year I'll learn even more. Now I've had a year of first grade I feel it's just the start for me."

McManus's attitude to preparation and training has earned widespread praise from Knights training staff, particularly Head Coach, Brian Smith.

"Jimmy's been all class since I first met him," Smith said.

"He's been able to reach really high standards in preparation but to play every game in his first season is almost unheard of.

"I look forward to seeing the improvements he can make - it's just great news for our club.

"I'm also looking forward to seeing how James develops as a club person. He's a quality guy.

"I know a fair bit about James from working with him but I'm looking forward to how people will get to see the other side of James McManus as opposed to the professional football player.

"I think he'll become a face for the Knights over the next three or four years."
