The Gold Coast Titans today confirmed that Bradford Bulls second rower Brad Meyers will join the club for its inaugural season in 2007.
Meyers said,
"I am really looking forward to playing with the Titans. It's a new challenge for my career and I couldn't think of a better place to be." Meyers sighted both personal and professional reasons for making the move to the Gold Coast including moving to be with his partner Anicia McNamee who is studying medicine on the Gold Coast and some unfinished business to attend to in the NRL.
Myers said,
"I've really enjoyed playing here at Bradford. It was a change I needed but now it is time to head back home. I have a few goals I wish to achieve within the NRL and feel that these last couple of years have given me a solid background on which to make my return." After debuting at the age of 20 with the Brisbane Broncos in 2000, Meyers made headlines in 2001 as one of 10 rookies to be selected into the Queensland State of Origin team which went on to win the series that year. He also played four tests in the shortened Kangaroo Tour of 2001.
In the following three seasons Meyer couldn't emulate the form of 2001 and moved to Bradford as a consequence. His form reversed in 2005 and 2006 and his infallible performances were noted by Titans Head Coach John Cartwright and Managing Director Michael Searle.
Searle said,
"It is quite obvious to us that Brad feels as though he has a point to prove in the NRL and his comments during negotiations centred around his unfinished business in Australia. This sends a clear message as to his focus moving forward. He is an outstanding acquisition for our squad and will add size and punch to our emerging forward pack." The offer to come back as a part of the start up club has presented as an exciting opportunity for the 26-year-old.
Titans coach John Cartwright said,
"Brad achieved plenty at a young age and for some reason he went stale in the NRL. He has been an integral part of Bradford's domination of Super League since he arrived in England and we're looking forward to giving him the opportunity to prove himself in the NRL." A fan favourite with the Bulls, he will leave an impression behind of a rangy forward who is renowned for his devastating runs out wide.
Cartwright said,
"Meyers brings a number of positives to the Titans equation including a lot of experience, plenty of ambition and the desire to succeed and he is someone who gives me plenty of options in the forward pack."
