Wed July 25, 2007 Source: www.raiders.com.auThe CFMEU Canberra Raiders have secured the services of Roosters centre Joel Monaghan for next season, after the former Raiders junior agreed today to return to his old club on a new three year deal. Monaghan, a Canberra junior, made his debut with the Raiders in 2001 and played 66 matches for the Green Machine, before moving to Sydney to join the Roosters at the start of the 2005 season. Now after three seasons with the tri-colours Monaghan returns to his home town and home club, and said he is looking forward to linking up with some former team mates back in Canberra. "I'm looking forward to coming back to Canberra and especially being able to play in front of my parents, Stu and Mary again," he said. "Also, linking up with some old mates, so it's going to be good for me and hopefully the club."Monaghan said he is also looking forward to working with Raiders Coach Neil Henry, and is keen to help the Raiders young side make a claim at next years title. "Neil coached me at school level and junior level before I left the Raiders so it's a great opportunity to link with him again," he said. "The future looks great with so many young players playing well under a young but well respected Coach."Raiders General Manager Don Furner said it's great to have Monaghan return to the club where he began his career, and looked forward to what he could bring to the young Raiders back line. "Joel is a Canberra boy and I think it's great to have him come back to the club where his career began," Furner said.
