Widnes sign Moore
Thu October 13, 2011
Having fought off the attempts of many others to secure his services, the Vikings are today delighted to announce the signing of hooker Scott Moore from St Helens on a three-year deal from 2012.

In 2004, aged just 16, Moore made his first senior appearance for Saints and in doing so became the youngest ever player to debut in Super League, a record that still remains intact. As a junior, he represented England at Under 15, 16 and 17s level before making his full international debut in 2009. To cap an excellent season, he was later unveiled as a member of the 2009 Engage Super League Dream Team.

Described as a player with outstanding ability and a natural footballing brain, the 23 year-old has a wealth of top-flight experience, gained at not only St Helens, but also at Castleford Tigers and Huddersfield Giants where he spent extended loan periods in previous seasons. Understandably, Vikings Head Coach Denis Betts is thrilled to welcome Scott on board; "In my opinion, he is definitely one of the best hookers in Super League and for somebody so young, he has a tremendous amount of first team experience under his belt.

"Scott has regularly played at the highest level and competed in the play-offs, a Grand Final, a Challenge Cup final and on the international stage. Having sampled experiences such as these, he'll be hungry for more of the same and his appetite to succeed will be infectious to all of those around him.

"To recruit a player of his pedigree is another massive step-forward for the club and I'm certain he'll be the backbone of the team for many a year."

Moore is the Vikings thirteenth new recruit ahead of their return to the 2012 Super League competition. He joins Ben Cross, Hep Cahill, Shaun Briscoe, Patrick Ah Van, Ben Davies, Lloyd White, Chris Dean, Frank Winterstein, Willie Isa, Jon Clarke, Rhys Hanbury and Anthony Watts in signing for the club.

Earlier this week, Moore was also named in the 22-man England Knights squad to take on France at Leigh Sports Village on Saturday, October 15 (3.00pm).

Huddersfield release six players including Fulton and Jackson
Thu September 10, 2009
Source: www.giantsrl.com

Huddersfield Giants have confirmed the release of six players from the 2009 full time squad as follows: Liam Fulton, Paul Jackson, Richard Lopag, Joe Walsh, Tom Hemingway and Chris Lawson are released.

Scott Moore set to return to St Helens following the expiry of his loan spell and Michael Korkidas to remain at the Wildcats in 2010 on a season long loan.

Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis told www.giantsrl.com some of the reasons behind these decisions:

"Liam was always a short term option for us after the Todd Carney deal fell away and he has been great to have around the team but he has unfulfilled ambitions in the NRL to pursue. I am sure that the taste of the English game has helped his development as a player and a person and I know that he has enjoyed learning from Nathan and will continue to play a big part in the remaining games."

"Jacko has been a tremendous player for our Club but he has an opportunity elsewhere that is the right one for him to accept. It's sad in many ways yet the salary cap rules are designed to share talent around the game and stop stockpiling of quality by any one club and sometimes these situations mean that quality people have to move on. I guess it's highly likely that both these regulars will feature on Sunday against Wigan and I hope that our supporters give them the send off they both deserve and by making these announcements now it does give both lads the opportunity to receive the fans plaudits.

"At a more junior level we now have some genuine competition for places to attract the full time deals for prospective engage Super League players of the future hence the release of the four others. All need to find regular starting berths at first team level and we will do all we can to help that process. We will shortly be making a number of exciting announcements about full time contracts for those that have excelled in reserve and academy football this year which will demonstrate the depth we are starting to build in that crucial youth area."

Thewlis went on to say: "It seems as soon as the September 1st deadline passes that the rumour mill in the game flies totally out of control and there is much speculation around players. I hope that the above satisfies some of the questions that our supporters are asking of us and that they respect the players own situations going forward and am sure that when any player feels comfortable to announce his future club then they will do so. In the meantime everyone at our Club is entirely focused on the game against Wigan and then the play off series. It remains a very exciting time to be a Giants supporter and am sure that we have much to look forward to in the short, medium and long term."
